Todd Hallsted
1969 - 2016

Todd Steven Hallsted passed away August 13, 2016, at Alcova Lake. He was born July 8, 1969, in Laramie, WY and grew up in Greybull. Todd was proud to hold the Greybull wrestling program Quick Pin record of 8 seconds. He was a state champion wrestler and member of four state championship teams. Todd also wrestled in Finland and the USSR with the Wyoming cultural exchange team. He was an All-State offensive tackle in football and played in the Shrine Bowl. Todd attended Rocky Mountain College, University of Wyoming, Northwest Community College and Chadron State College, playing football and wrestling along the way. At Chadron State, Todd met Angie Anderson and they were married on May 15, 1993. From then on Todd earned all A’s, a bachelors’ and masters’ degree and additional graduate hours. In 1994 he began his teaching career in Pawnee City, NE where he taught 7-12 grade sciences, was head football coach, and much to his chagrin, the assistant boys’ basketball coach. In 1995, Todd and Angie moved to St Paul, NE where he continued to teach 7-12 grade science, coach football, and had the opportunity to build a wrestling program from the ground up. He coached the youth Huskerland, junior and senior high programs. His first varsity team had only three wrestlers, but the second year he had a team of twenty with all of the weight classes filled. The 2000-2001 team finished 12th out of 61 teams at the state tournament. Todd’s science classes were challenging and entertaining, most notably for all of the dissections his students learned to love.

On August 14, 1997, Todd and Angie became the proud parents of a daughter, Ashton Lynn. Payton Sarah completed their family on February 14, 2000. Todd was a very proud, adoring and protective father and husband. He loved to spend time fishing, hunting, camping, travelling and laughing with his family and friends.

In 2002 the family moved to Casper, WY and Todd began teaching at Natrona County High School where he was well known for blowing things up, starting fires, and competing in heated cribbage games. Todd coached football at both CY and Dean Morgan, and was an assistant wrestling coach at NCHS. Numerous former students from Nebraska and Wyoming have cited Todd as a key influence in their lives and career paths. He loved to hear of his former students’ accomplishments and was just waiting for one of them to buy him a sportscar.

Todd is survived by his wife, Angie, daughters Ashton and Payton of Casper; mother Jacquie Whitney (Sam) of Wheatland; father Lee Hallsted (Janet) of Greybull, brother Matt, grandparents Joe Chasteen (Virginia) of Cheyenne, and a host of additional relatives and friends. He was preceeded in death by grandparents Jean Thomas, Lyle and Iola Hallsted.

Memorial services will be Thursday August 18th at 1pm at Highland Park Community Church, followed by a reception. Casual dress (school colors, fishing or hunting wear) is strongly encouraged. Memorials to establish a scholarship fund in Todd’s memory may be sent to Reliant Federal Credit Union, 4015 Plaza Drive, Casper, WY 82604, or dropped off at any Reliant location, including 777 Landmark Drive, Casper.
