In Memory Of
Robert Davis "Bob" Odell
1926 - 2016

One of Casper’s feistiest characters, Robert Davis “Bob” Odell, passed away peacefully on the 21st of October, 2016. Surprised by the diagnosis of a fatal illness he replied, “I’m only 90!” Bob was born on the 30th of March, 1926 in Holly, New York to Burton J. Odell and Vera Davis Odell where he was spoiled by his older sisters Betty and Marion. Bob graduated from Brandon High School in Florida, and was voted the class’s “Most Charming” member. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps near the end of World War II and served in Austria as an aircraft mechanic. After the war, Bob went to the University of New Mexico to pursue a degree in Geology and fell in love with the landscapes of the West. While attending an adult Sunday School class at the Albuquerque Methodist church, he met the true love of his life, Edna Schwamb, and they married on the 11th of October in 1958. Soon after, they moved to Casper and Bob worked as a geologist in the uranium industry in the Shirley Basin Mines. He continued working well into his eighties as a private consultant for many firms. Bob was also the editor and publisher of the Rocky Mountain Uranium Scout. They raised three children: Roberta, Winne, and Dan. Bob loved the arts almost as much as he loved the outdoors. He was an avid collector of local artists, as well as an accomplished painter, sculptor, and photographer. He was passionate about the Casper Artist Guild, and the Wyoming Geological Association. He was also active in Methodist Men, the YMCA and other community organizations. Bob was generous and befriended outcasts. Bob may be best known in the community for his humor, and we will miss that the most.

Bob is survived by his wife Edna Schwamb Odell, daughters Roberta Odell Frederick (Christopher) of Seattle, and Winne Odell Scott (Sam) of Casper, son Rev. Dan Odell (Marcene) of Casper, grandchildren Davis Odell (Bonnie), Madeline Odell, Samuel Scott and Joanna LaPerriere. He was proceeded in death by his parents and sisters.

In lieu of flowers memorials in his name may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice or the charity of your choice.
