William C. “Grandpa Bill” Stapert

William Charles ”Grandpa Bill” Stapert, 82 died on January 18, 2017 at his home in Evansville surrounded by his family.

He was born October 29, 1934 to Samuel and Minnie Stapert in Patterson NJ. He was the youngest of 7 children.

He graduated high school in 1952 and served in the United States Air Force as a cryptographer in Japan, and was stationed at Warren Air Force base in Cheyenne.
On a blind date, he met the love of his life, Caroline Webster, in Laramie.

They were married on June 16, 1960, and had 3 children, Scott, Jan, and Mark.
He was assistant manager at Swenson Lumber Co. in Laramie until 1975, when he purchased what became Stapert’s Paint Store in Casper. He and Caroline owned the business for nearly 20 years.

He was an avid bowler, and had the distinction of being the first person to bowl a league sanctioned perfect 300 game at Eagle Bowl.

He was an avid golfer, and scored a hole in one in 2002 at the Casper Municipal Golf Course. Bill was also an avid Wyoming Cowboys football fan.

He was a member of the Elks Club, Chamber of Commerce, Casper Mountain Lions Club, and coached women’s softball. He volunteered at the Wyoming Medical Center. Bill was with the Foster Grandparent Program for 19 years and also volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Casper. The kids lovingly called him “Grandpa Bill”

He was a member of Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church, and was co-chair of the church’s building program.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Sam, Peter, Elmer and John, and sisters Minnie and Gladys.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Caroline, children Scott, of Ft Lauderdale Fl, Jan (Mike) Schoolcraft of Casper, Mark,(Kelly) of Cody, grandchildren Ashlee Lowndes of Casper, Balea Olson, Brittany Wenke, both of Cody, Serena Stapert of Bozeman, and six great grandchildren. At the time of his death, he was awaiting the birth of his seventh great grandchild.

Donations may be made to the Foster Grandparent Program, the Boys and Girls Club of Casper, or to Central Wyoming Hospice and Transition.

Services will be held at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church, 4100 Casper Mountain Road on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
