In Memory Of
Ardelle Kangas Martin
1926 - 2017

Ardelle Kangas Martin, 90, of Casper, WY, went to be with her Lord and Savior March 4, 2017.

She was born to the late Ralph Everett and Mamie Sofia (Kangas) Swaim in Casper, Wyoming on July 1, 1926. She attended McKinley Elementary School and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1944. She was married to Hugh Robert Martin March 27, 1948, and he preceded her in death on July 3, 1976.

During her high school years, Ardelle worked in photography shops for the Sevey’s, Tom Carrigan and Chuck Flood. She also worked for Hughes Tool Company, National Supply Co., International Cementers and Great Lakes Oil & Chemical Company after high school. Her final career was in insurance where she was employed by Barnard Realty Insurance, Insurance Services, Inc. and Ramsgate Managing Insurance.

Ardelle was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church, a 50 year member of Fort Casper Chapter #4 of Eastern Star, and belonged to National Association of Insurance Women serving as President in 1971-1972. She was also Secretary for the first Women’s Bowling Association in Casper and served on the Council for Job’s Daughters Bethel #28.

During her lifetime, Ardelle enjoyed bowling, square dancing, camping, fishing, sewing, hand work, and singing with Grace Lutheran Church Choir and the Sweet Adelines. In the latter part of her life, Ardelle spent many hours working on the computer, researching genealogy, giving each of her grandchildren a history of their family genealogy, teaching basic computer skill classes to seniors, taking photos of family and friends and could not pass a barn without snapping a photo. She was the lone traveler on a Greyhound bus on a trip from Idaho Falls to Casper and the bus driver accommodated her wishes to stop many times to snap pictures of barns along the route. She volunteered numerous hours with the Wyoming Veteran’s Museum and also transcribed interviews on tape from war veterans for the Veteran’s History Project. She was also a volunteer at the Casper College Library researching Casper history. She was the one many friends came to for power point presentations for class reunions, family gatherings and the like. Many newborn babies were the recipients of her knitting expertise.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Ralph Everett Jr. and LeRoy Martin Swaim and her daughter, Susan Leneé (Martin) Doggett.

She is survived by her daughters Debora (Steve) Dexter of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Kelly (Gene) Hunt of Casper, WY, and Amy (Simon) Davies of Denver, CO; Grandchildren, Tony (Kimmie) King, Daniel (Lauren Jessica) Daley, Aaron Wood, Adam (Steven) Hughes-Rutledge, Darcy (Andrew) Hubbard, Kaitlyn Hughes, and Kerri Davies; Great-Grandchildren, James Touchton Daley, Grayce Willow Martin Daley, Alexis Leneé King, Aliana Sue Reynoso, Zoe Ardelle Fernandez and Easton Cody Hubbard.

A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home from 5 pm to 7 pm Wednesday, March 8th. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 315 CY Avenue, Casper, WY, with a reception to be announced. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery after reception.
