Mira was born May 2, 1928 in Oklahoma City, OK, to Samuel I. McElhoes and Franc Garner McElhoes. She moved to Chickasha, OK at an early age where her father became the first City Attorney for Lawton, OK before statehood.

Mira graduated high school at Chickasha, OK in 1946. That same year she began dating Jim Collums and they were married December 27, 1948. She and Jim were married for over 68 years and lived in Casper since January,1961.
Mira attended Lindenwood College one year and almost three years at Oklahoma College for Women and the University of Oklahoma. She was a member of the Tri-Delta Sorority and was active as an alumna.

Mira was active in the PEO, having served her chapter as president. She also served as president of the Casper Junior League. She served as a substitute teacher in the Casper School District in her later years. She was active at the First Methodist Church as a member in the choir for several years. Besides singing, she loved needle pointing, playing golf and tennis, gourmet cooking clubs, and bridge clubs. She enjoyed traveling to many places around the world.

Mira and Jim have two sons and a daughter, Gary Collums (Casper), Christi Collums Doyle (Las Vegas, NV), and Jim Collums (Casper). Mira has seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, S. Irad McElhoes and Donald McElhoes.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Casper, March 25, at 11:00 a.m.
