Cordia Ethel (Jandreau) Burgess, 88, died September 12, 2017 at Life Care Center in Casper surrounded by family members.

Cordia was born December 17, 1928 in Midwest, Wyoming to Joe and Cordia (Hemphill) Jandreau. She was raised and attended schools through the first year of high school in Midwest. She moved to Casper in 1945 and attended NCHS where she graduated in 1947. She married Bruce O. Burgess on June 7, 1947 in Casper where they made their home and raised their family.

Cordia worked for Mountain Bell for several years before making the decision to stay home to raise their two children. In 1967 Bruce and Cordia started Burgess Sand and Gravel where she worked until the sale of the company in 1972.

Cordia enjoyed the outdoors, spending family vacations camping and fishing in the Big Horns, where she always caught the biggest fish, as well as boating and camping at numerous lakes and camping areas around Wyoming and other areas of the country. Many a night was spent with family sitting around a campfire laughing and swapping stories. She enjoyed crafting and loved playing cards and seldom missed her weekly bridge game. While at Park Place Assisted Living she started a weekly poker game where she taught other residents how to play the game. After her retirement she and her husband traveled much of the country in their motorhome and eventually settled in Yuma, Arizona where they would spend their winters, returning to Casper each summer where they would divide their time between a home in Casper and a place at Alcova Lake.

Cordia is survived by her son Bruce A. “Chip” (Trish) Burgess of Casper, daughter Sandi Lathim of Coarsegold, California, granddaughters Renae (Joe) Vigneri of Casper, Sheri Byrne of Las Vegas, Nevada, Wendi (Josh) Snow of Turlock, California, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bruce, sisters Glora Ragsdale, Inez Jandreau, Shirley Jean Jandreau, Mary Lou Jandreau, brothers Louis, Ernest, Donald and grandson Rusty Lathim.

Services will be held at Highland Park Community Church at 10:00 a.m., Thursday September 21, 2017.

Memorials in her name may be made to Casper Humane Society, 849 East E. Street, Casper, WY 82601.To share your memories of Cordia or leave a special condolence message for her family, please click the Share Memories button above.
