In Memory Of
June M. Wilcox
1924 - 2016

June Maxine Spellman Wilcox, 91, entered her eternal, heavenly home on April 4, 2016. She was born on June 23, 1924 in Sprague, NE to John and Sophie Spellman. June was the 4th of 5 daughters in the Spellman family. After growing up in the Sprague community, she graduated valedictorian of her high school class and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she graduated with distinction in 1945, as a Secondary Education English major.

On May 25, 1947 she married Charles C. Wilcox of Gibbon, NE. June and Charlie lived in several communities over the next 5 years and eventually made Casper, WY their home. In Casper, June shifted from teaching, to what became her career in banking with the Wyoming National Bank. June started as a teller in 1952 and retired in 1985 as the Supervisor of the General Books Department. She enjoyed her work at Wyoming National, as it provided a way for her to meet so many of Casper’s people.

Upon her retirement, she and her husband took a number of extended excursions outside the U.S. June was a woman of great faith and shared her love of the Lord with her family, through service in her church and was a member of Women in the Word Bible Study. She loved spending time in her back yard, tending to her garden, flowers and relaxing on the back patio. She enjoyed her friendships and associations through the American Association of University Women, the Readers Club, Interfaith, the Casper Symphony and Casper College Theatre productions. June was a voracious reader and you would never find her book basket anything less, than full.

June is survived by so many who loved her; her daughter, Jane Baker and husband, Don of Casper and son, Jon and his wife, Ann of Westminster, CO. She was blessed with three grandchildren; Katie Wilcox Petersen and husband Shadron of Casper, David Wilcox and wife Stephanie of Thornton, CO and Andrew Wilcox of Westminster, CO. Recently, she enjoyed the joy of holding her first great grandchild, Camden, who is the son of David and Stephanie. June was always happy to be called “Aunt June” and blessed to have many nieces and nephews in her family.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie, her parents, her sisters and their spouses.

A celebration of her life will take place at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the First Christian Church, 520 CY Avenue, Casper, WY. Her ashes will be interred at a later date at the Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery in Evansville, WY.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions, 319 S. Wilson S. St, Casper, WY 82601.
