Eva A. Babcock
1914 - 2016

Long-time Casper resident Eva A. Babcock, 102, died April 21, 2016 at her home surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law and caring friend, Mely. Eva was born at the family ranch east of Casper on February 28, 1914. She was the 7th of nine children of William W. and Mary E. (Iba) Mosteller. Eva attended Jefferson school and graduated from Natrona County High School with the class of 1932.

During her school years she stayed with brothers and sisters at a home in town built by their father to enable their education. She, along with her brothers and sisters, would return to the family ranch on weekends and during summers to help with the numerous operations there, including a fish hatchery, greenhouse, apple orchards, gardens and the bee and honey business.

On July 27, 1934 she married Dale B. Babcock and together they purchased and operated the Casper Magazine Agency. Upon his death in 1962, Eva continued that business until its sale in 1978. She then took over the operation of her bookstore, The Westerner, until the age of 89.

Eva was a very determined, hard-working business woman and involved herself in many community and property- related ventures in Casper. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking and fishing and even near the age of 90 she wouldn't turn down a snowmobile or 4-wheeler ride or a snow sledding/picnic trip to celebrate her winter birthday. She loved her flowers and well into her 90's maintained one of the prettiest yards in Casper.

Eva was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers: Fred, Dick, and Charlie Mosteller and five sisters: Mary H. Mosteller, Mildred Elliot, June Richardson, Frances Bentley, and Peggy Bullack. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Murphy and son-in-law, Dave Murphy of Casper and 2 sons, Charles (Joanne) and Ron (Virginia) Babcock plus many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Eva's wish, no service was held and she has been laid to rest in Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions of the donors choice in her memory are appreciated.
