James B. "Jim" Russell
1948 - 2015

James B. “Jim” Russell, age 66, passed away peacefully at his home in Casper, WY, on February 10, 2015, after an eight-year battle with cancer.

Jim was born in Oklahoma City, OK, on August 10, 1948 to Anna Margene and James B. Russell, Sr. He moved to Wyoming and graduated from Campbell County High School in Gillette, WY, where he was a member of the state championship golf team in 1967 and met the best friends of his life. He attended Casper College for two years before being drafted into the Army. He proudly served his country from July 1969 to July 1971 as a Sargent in the 101st Airborne with a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam. On November 27, 1971, he married Judi Corbin in Worland, WY.

He and Judi started their family in Oklahoma City while he completed his education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Central State University in Edmond, OK. He worked for the Veterans’ Hospital and the Federal Aviation Administration. They moved to Casper, WY in 1980. Jim was an avid sports fan and always looked forward to being a part of his kids’ sporting events. He enjoyed golfing with his son, sons-in-law, nephews, and friends. He was extremely proud of his family, and he worked very hard to provide for them a good life. He retired from Tri-State Truck and Equipment in 2009 where he was the Parts Manager.

Jim will be remembered for his compassionate spirit, his fun-loving sense of humor, and his dedication to his family. He helped coach many of his kids’ teams, and he was their ultimate fan. He loved to be in a gym or at a field watching his loved ones play and his kids coach their teams. He was the world’s greatest grandpa; he made sure his grandkids had everything they wanted and always had full bellies. He was also their personal chauffer to preschool, games, and all their activities.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Judi, his daughters, Jennifer (Chad) Alvar, and Jill (Jon) Vance, his son, Daniel Russell, all of Casper, his brother, Steve (Tracey) Russell of Oklahoma City, OK, six grandchildren, Logann, Camrynn, Carter, Quinn, Addyson, and Ainslee, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James B. Russell, Sr., his mother, Anna Margene Stewart, his sister, Carol Jean Smith, and two nephews, Bryan Patrick Russell and Thomas Boyce Corbin.

A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 16, 2015, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. A reception will follow at the Casper Country Club. A committal service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery.
