Mary was born to Dr. Leo and Mary Jane DeBacker on February 13th, 1956. Born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa, she attended St. Mary's grade school, Central Junior High School, and West High High School. Throughout school she loved swimming, track, and cheer leading. She was runner up to the Paper Doll Queen in high school.
She went on to study liberal arts at University Of Iowa, nursing at Kirkwood Community College, and Occupational Therapy at Casper College.
Mary had a very loving & captivating spirit and a very creative personality. She enjoyed dancing, watching movies, reading, writing, camping and being outdoors in her garden. She always wanted to invent something to help people with disabilities.
She was a woman of God and had a purpose of guiding people into a better way of life.
Preceded in death by her parents Dr. Leo and Mary Jane Debacker, both of Iowa City, Iowa. She is survived by her son; Joseph Lucchi & wife Dezerae Smith, grandkids Giovanni Lucchi, Jessie Smith, Jerred Smith and NovaRae Lucchi, daughter Susie Lucchi-Evenson & husband Gerald Evenson, grandkids Cicily Evenson, Lorenzo Evenson, Brooklynn McIntosh, & Trevin Evenson, and great granddaughter Erilynn, brother Leo DeBacker, nephew Travis Debacker & wife Naoko, great niece & nephew Devin and Naomi.
