Juanita J. (Wicht) Kroll passed away on Sunday July 22, 2018 in Buffalo, Wyoming at the age of 93. Juanita was born August 28, 1924 on the Wicht family farm South of Wood River, Nebraska to Friedrick “Ferd” and Wilhelmenia “Minnie” (Seier) Wicht. She was the 9th child in a family of twelve. She attended kindergarten in Wood River, but after a devastating tornado, school was held in the Wicht family home. In 8th grade Juanita again began attending school in Wood River. She had to pass the 8th grade exams in Wood River and also go to Grand Island and take the Hall County 8th grade exams. With two 8th grade diplomas in hand she finished high school in Wood River graduating with the class of 1942. Following graduation Juanita went to work for Bernie’s Meat Market, cutting and wrapping meat and cooking hamburgers in the restaurant. On December 20, 1942 she married Bernard “Bernie” Kroll in Kansas. Together they worked in the Ordnance Plant in Grand Island, Nebraska before Bernie was hired by the Union Pacific Railroad. Juanita, Bernie and their two children Tom and Judi lived in Grand Island until the family transferred with the Railways, to Long Pine, Nebraska, and Belle Fourche, South Dakota before finally residing in Casper, Wyoming in 1962. With Tom married and Judi in high school Juanita decided to return to work. She was employed by Brandon’s Bakery, and Kon’s Bakery before K-Mart opened a location in Casper. Juanita accepted employment in K-Mart Men’s Wear, a position she held until she retired. After she and Bernie retired they built a recreational cabin on Casper Mountain and spent many happy days building, improving and relaxing in the peaceful tranquility of nature and wildlife. In 2016 Juanita’s husband Bernie passed away and Juanita became a resident of Park Place Assisted Living in Casper, before transferring in 2018 to Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo, WY.
