Funeral services for Walter Rinehauld Hein, age 93, will be held at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, Wyoming at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 with Reverend Mary Schmidt officiating.
Walt was born to Jake Hein and Mollie Leis in Bayard, Nebraska. He is predeceased by one sister, Mary Smith (Hein). Walt served in the U. S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 on an Amphibious Attack Transport (APA) ship in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was involved in several beach landings including Iwo Jima. Walt was married to Mary Hein (Lovejoy) from 1954 until she passed away in February, 2017. They met at Winona State University, in Winona, Minnesota, where Walt received his bachelor’s degree in education. He later attended Colorado State University where he received his master’s degree in education. He taught welding and retired from Natrona County High School in 1986.
Walt is survived by his two sons Ron Hein (Linda) and Randy Hein (Connie), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Central Wyoming Hospice.
