Shirley J. Morton
1936 - 2018

Shirley June Morton died peacefully in the presence of her family on November 28th, 2018 at Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions. Shirley was born on February 23rd, 1936 in Marion County, Arkansas to George and Golda Dobbs and was the oldest of three children. She lived in California and Kansas while growing up but was raised in Springfield, Missouri for most of her life; after graduating from high school there she worked at Commerce Bank for several years. She married Maurice Morton on July 22nd, 1962, a marriage of 54 years that gave them two children and two grandchildren.

The family moved to Casper in 1981 where Shirley and Maurice lived for the rest of their lives. Shirley was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed volunteer work over the years at Interfaith and the Natrona County Public Library. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship at First Christian Church and loved the weekly quilting work they did as well as participating in the sandwich ministry and other group activities.

Shirley was humble, considerate and kind, always willing to volunteer when she could be of assistance to others. She was an avid reader, a wonderful cook and was always happy to be a good listener for others. She was devoted to her family and was adored by them in turn. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Maurice; she is survived by her children Jeff (Thea) Morton and Michele (Joseph) Perko, grandchildren Liam and Amelia Morton, siblings Georgeanne Brown and Robert Dobbs, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was deeply loved by them all and will be forever missed.

Newcomer Casper Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the Newcomer Casper Chapel. Burial will be held privately at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery.
