Mary Margaret Markward Barnes passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018, following her husband, Tom; son, Loring; and sisters, Pat and Fran. Mary was born October 1, 1916, in Kansas City, MO. She was the oldest daughter of Frank Austin and Magdalen L. Markward. They moved to Casper in 1926. Mary attended Park Elementary and McKinley Junior High, graduating from Natrona County High School in 1936. She worked for her dad until marrying Tom on February 21, 1941. In 1960, while raising their sons Loring and Mark, Mary accepted a secretarial position at Fort Casper School. She retired in 1976. Joined by friends and family, Mary and Tom took many trips through the U.S. and Canada, even taking a trip to England in 1987. She was an avid Bridge player and belonged to Beta Sigma Phi.

A member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church since the age of ten, she taught Sunday School and mailed the church letter for over thirty years.

Mary is survived by her son, Mark Barnes of League City, TX; grandchildren, Carmen, Summer, and Micah; and great grandchildren, Isiah, Madison, Marissa, Zachariah, and Garrett.

A visitation will be held from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018, at Newcomer Casper Chapel, 710 East Second, Casper, WY 82601. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 701 S. Wolcott St., Casper, WY 82601. Interment will follow at Wyoming Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church would be greatly appreciated.
