John Richard Gardner, 72, of Casper, Wyoming, passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2019.

He was born to parents Edward M. Gardner and Odella (Gabel) Gardner, on July 8, 1946 in Great Bend, Kansas.

He graduated from Natrona County High School in 1964 and went on to study briefly at Casper College before enlisting in the United States Air Force.

John met his high school sweetheart, Judy Gardner (Noel) in 1963. They were married on December 28, 1968 in Casper, Wyoming, and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends this past December. Together they raised two children: Bryan Gardner of Austin, Texas, and Kelly Woody of Casper, Wyoming.

John was employed as Parts Manager and eventually Vice President of Power Service, Inc. where he retired after 34 years of service in 2005.
He loved his family with all his heart, but coming in a close second were classic cars and the Casper College basketball and volleyball games. He was an avid fan of Rising Star Tumbling & Dance Studio and was the emcee at several recitals for over a decade. He was an honorary member of the Oil Capitol Auto Club and Casper College T-Bird Booster Club.

John is survived by his wife, Judy Gardner, son, Bryan Gardner (Armando Zambrano), daughter, Kelly Woody (Chad Woody), brother, Eddie Gardner (Vivian), brother-in-law, Chuck Smith; grandchildren, Destany Jaussaud and Dood Jaussaud, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Connie Smith; in-laws, A.G. and Eloise Noel (Downing), brother in-law, Shane Noel, and step father-in-law, Pat Pettersen.

The family has entrusted Newcomer Funeral Home with the arrangements. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 6 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and a reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Pastor Jo Ann Neal will officiate. Interment will take place later at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, Wyoming.

Donations may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 Wilson St., Casper, Wyoming 82601 or to Pop in the Shop, 232 E. 2nd St. Suite 200, Casper, Wyoming 82601.
