I used to go to Poison Spider. I only went there a year but he was the best teacher I ever had. Even after I moved away I'd reach out when I didn't understand something to do with science classes and he would always help me out without any hesitation. He was more than a teacher to me. He was a friend. A reliable source to go to in a time of need. I remember he would draw pictures of my favorite band members on the back of mine and my best friends tests when we aced them. He did that bc the 3 of us loved that band. Panic! At The Disco I think it was. He was my favorite teacher. He was supportive when I struggled to come to terms with my sexuality and never judged when I reached out for support. I lived in a really sucky household and his class made life feel bearable again. He made school fun. The projects, the assignments, the humor. All of it gave me something to look forward to the next day. It kept me going for that year. One of the hardest years I went through. He was an amazing person. He had so much to give the world but I guess he just didn't have enough time to do it. I miss him. A lot. It sucks that he's gone. It sucks a lot. It feels like I lost a best friend instead of just a teacher. Rest in peace Maes.

All of my memories with him I cherish. He made this world a better place for a lot of people, I can't really name any really good memories because all of them are in my heart mushed together. I think of him every day and I wonder what it would've been like this year if he was still here. I miss you Maes :C

Justin Maes was the “One” teacher for my son Chase Clark . He inspired him built him up and believed in him unconditionally. He gave him confidence and was a constant support. Chase and I both will always hold him very close to our hearts . My condolences to his family and to the Poison Spider family, and all of the students who’s lives he touched. I thank you Justin and see you as being a huge part in Chase’s continued success as a thriving college student and adult. You did the good work. May your light and love continue to be bright forever . Shine On my friend.

I'll never forget when Mr. Mae's started at poison spider all the girls were saying oh my goodness he's so cute! He got the kids into science he was always excited to see the kids and to teach them! Mr. Mae's always made sure no one was ever left out and that they'd ALWAYS have fun! I remember the Catapult he put in the play ground and they used melons to launch all the kids and Mae's laughed so hard! When he'd be walking down the hall or in his classroom the kids would yell for him "MAES" he'd turn around with such a huge smile! When we saw him he'd always greeted us and with a big smile he'd ask us how we were doing. Before we'd leave I'd say have an AMAESING day!! He was truly amazing and a blessing he will forever be missed but never forgotten! We will forever have wonderful memories my thoughts and prayers are with you all!

My thoughts and prayers are with Justin's family today and the days to come. May you have the Peace that only God can give. It didn't take long after meeting Justin, that this world is a better place, because of him. He lived life to the fullest, setting an example for us all. As a co-worker at PSS for a short time, I wish I could have got to know him more. I'll never forget your contagious smile.

Justin was a great acquaintance and childhood friend. Justin and I attended school from grade 3 until we graduated high school. We then worked as lifeguards for the city until life happened and we parted ways as adults do.
You will be missed Justin, have a great time fishing in the great beyond.
Love to the family

Knowing Maes, he was an amazing teacher, beyond amazing actually. I can't even begin with describing his polite and fun nature. He made all his students enjoy going to school, his classroom was always full of excitement, there never was a day that no one laughed when he was around. Most of all he was a dear friend to all his students that cared, there's no doubt, he will be dearly missed.

I first met Justin when my kids attended Poison Spider in 5th grade. He was an amazing man who immediately made me like him. I then got the pleasure of working at the school with him for 6 years. He made science fun and really connected with the students. I loved when he had the students do a wax museum of scientists. He also was the DJ for the dances. He really connected with what kids wanted and needed. My kids and I will always remember him and our thoughts and prayers are going out to his family and the staff and students at Poison Spider.

Justin you have touched the lives of thousands of people throughout your life and I am glad to be one of those people. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you become an amazing leader and teacher. I know of a few "science experiments" done in the guard house(s) and I am glad that I don't know all of them. I can picture your mischievous smile right now while thinking of these days. Whether you were teaching swim lessons, making people mad during the parade :) or just being around to make someones day, you did everything with a passion. I'm proud to have had the honor to have you in my life. Prayers to your family and friends.

Justin I don’t even know where to begin. I’m so glad I got to know you in high school and that we were able to lifeguard together. Then when we reconnected later after college you helped me through some really tough times. You were a friend when I didn’t have one. I’m sorry we didn’t get to go fishing. You will be dearly missed my friend!! My heart and prayers go out to your family. Catch some big ones for us. Until we meet again my friend fly high.
