In Memory Of
John "Jack" Joseph Blomstrom
1950 - 2022
He married Sue Gilloon that summer, and the Army sent them to Mannheim, Germany, for three years. Their next assignment was to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX, and they had their first child, Molly, there in 1980. After leaving the Army, he spent a short time in Dallas working for the US Department of Energy. In 1982, Jack took a job for True Oil in Casper, WY. Eventually, Jack was promoted to General Council for the True companies. It was in Casper that their next two children, John and Rich, were born in 1982 and 1988 respectively. He loved his job, his employers, their families, and his coworkers. He considered the job a blessing, and enjoyed it so much that he stayed on with the company for 40 years. Jack was a part of several different organizations, including Rocky Mountain Legal Foundation and the United Way.
Jack enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing as well as golf, but he sacrificed these hobbies so that he could focus more on being the best husband and father possible to his family. The only thing that took priority over his family was his faith. He attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for 40 years and enjoyed serving in the parish, taking on many roles in the Church over the years.
Jack’s kindness, generous spirit, and selflessness will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him.
Jack is survived by his wife Sue; their three children: Molly and John (wife Nancy) of Casper, Wyoming, and Rich (fiancée Dana) of Austin, Texas; his brother Bob (wife Brooke) of Dallas, Texas; his sister Sally Thompson (husband Bill) of New Smyrna, Florida; and his brother-in-law Duke Schneller (wife Gayle) of Custer, South Dakota. He is also survived by four grandchildren, with another due in 2023, and ten nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Peg Schneller.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to True Care Women's Resource Center or St. Anthony’s Tri-Parish Catholic School.
A viewing will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home from 6 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, 12/29, followed by a Rosary from 7 pm to 8 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 11 am on Friday, 12/30, followed by internment at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery.
