John Michael Nicely
1964 - 2024

John Michael Nicely, 59, of Casper, Wyoming, passed unexpectedly on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Johnny, aka Big John and Johnny Blaze, was born on July 30, 1964, in Santa Maria, California.

Johnny spent most of his life in Santa Maria, California and attended Ernest Righetti High School. He relocated to Casper, Wyoming in 2019 and grew to love his new home. Johnny devoted his life to protecting his family, friends, and country, pursuing his interests, and doing the work he loved as a pipe welder in the oil fields and industrial refrigeration industry.

As a young man Johnny manufactured, raced, and sold BMX bicycles. His passion evolved into a love for going fast. This led him to build drag racing cars to see how fast he could go, both on the street and on the track. He spent many years drag racing, built a reputation for winning and in 2001 was recognized as a race winner by the Southern California Drag Racing Association (SCEDA). Throughout his lifetime he rode dirt bikes on single trails, but loved drag racing at the beach. He was an excellent marksman and spent time shooting competitively in his younger years. Johnny will be remembered for his sharp sense of humor, hearty laugh, and the joy he brought to everyone around him.

Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Bertha Bell Nicely and Quillie Edward Nicely, Jr.; his sister, Aquila Jean Nicely; and brother Donald Edward Nicely. He is survived by his wife, Nicole Nicely; his daughters, Iczaa Vaughn Scudder, and Kamille Anne Vaughn Scudder; and more family and friends than can be listed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Pioneer Park in Santa Maria, California on April 21, 2024 at 1:00 pm. His loved ones encourage everyone to email happy memories and photos to johnnicelythelegend@gmail.com or bring them to be shared at the celebration in his memory.
