Alena Lew (Spencer) Stevens, 63, of Casper, passed peacefully in her sleep, into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 23, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 2, 1961, in Casper, Wyoming, to Allen and Collene (Byer) Spencer. She was the fourth of their five daughters.
Alena attended Pineview Elementary School, East Junior High School, and graduated from Kelly Walsh High School in 1979. In her younger years, she held jobs in retail, but then went to work for Shellabarger Chevrolet, where she met the love of her life, Mike Stevens. They fell in love immediately and never looked back. They were married on July 21, 1984, at Boyd Avenue Baptist Church in Casper. To this union were born three children, Michelle, Garrett, and Lacey. Alena was very proud of her children, and the adults they became.
Alena went to work for the Natrona County School District first working at Manor Heights and then Crest Hill Elementary Schools. On February 1, 2002, she went to work at Verda James Elementary School, where she stayed until retirement. She loved her work in educational support, and she was loved by her students. Many of her students remained friends with her long after they graduated from school.
Becoming a grandmother was one of the highlights of her life. She was thrilled when her granddaughter, Elliott Stevens was born on August 3, 2018. She was blessed with two more grandchildren, Brooklyn & Jaxon Killinger when Lacey fell in love with their father in 2019. Maya Stevens joined the family shortly after on June 24, 2022. She loved spending time with her babies, and they all loved being with her.
Alena retired on June 8, 2020, and looked forward to traveling and spending more time with her children and grandchildren. She was always ready for summer and the lake was her happy place. She loved camping, fishing, four-wheeling, and anything that got her out into the sun. She was always full of life and sparkle, from her nails to her shoes. She loved making things beautiful both outside in her yard and in decorating her home.
Alena couldn’t have asked for a better husband. They enjoyed doing everything together, traveling, golfing, or just watching TV in the garage, they were truly soulmates. Her children and grandchildren enjoyed being with them through it all. She will be so very missed. We rejoice in knowing that she is with the Lord, and family who have gone on before her. The party in Heaven must be an amazing one.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Collene Spencer; grandparents, George and Harriet Byer and Allen and Anna Spencer; in-laws, Audrey and John Stevens; niece, Audra VonSenden, grandnieces, Alyssa Harman, Laila Spethman, and Hallie Moore; and grandnephews, Alec Olsen, Jonathan Sawdon and Thomas Moore.
She is survived by her loving husband, Mike Stevens; children, Michelle (Matt) Miller, Garrett (Kayla) Stevens, and Lacey (Chris) Killinger; her grandchildren, Elliott Stevens and Maya Stevens, Brooklyn Killinger, and Jaxon Killinger. Also surviving are sisters, Cheryl Masterson, Caryn (Bob) Schulenberg, Caryl (Mike) Reed, and Allyn (Chris) Hadlock; brothers-in-law, Scott (Barbara) Stevens and Patrick (Susan) Stevens; sisters-in-law, Annette (Hermis) Decoteau, Carrie (Mike) VonSenden, and Kathy (Mike) Huval; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Per her request, no services will be held, and cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of life later this summer at the lake where family and friends can share their stories and memories of Alena.
