Our beloved mother, Barbara Jean Schafer, 89, of Casper, Wyoming, passed away on March 20, 2026.
Barbara was born October 15, 1936 to Wayne and Mae Voss of Worland WY. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Washakie County High School in 1954. Barbara married Robert N. Schafer of Worland, WY on May 7, 1955. Unto this blessed union was born Carol, Mark, Lauri, and Mike - all born in Wyoming.
Barbara kept busy raising her active family and was involved in various community activities. She was an incredibly creative and gifted crazy quilter, painter, crafter, as well as many other arts. She also taught classes and won many awards and ribbons for her amazing creations. Barbara was known for her crackerjack wit and fun personality. She was blessed with many lifetime friends because of her loving spirit. Due to Robert's career as a geologist, they lived in Laramie WY, Jeffrey City, WY, Golden, CO, Kanab, UT and Casper, WY.
Barbara is survived by Carol Grimes, Mark Schafer (Natalie), Lauri Rhoades (Bert), and Mike Schafer (Brenda). She has 8 grandchildren (Crystal, Lindsay, Sarah, Amber, Jamie, Misty, Ashley, and Zach) and 9 great grandchildren (Alex, Macayla, Nate, Makenna, Madi, Hunter, Logan, Quincy, Remi) whom she dearly loved and cherished, and they loved her in return. Family meant everything to Barbara!
Barbara was preceded in death, by the love of her life, Robert N Schafer; parents Wayne and Mae Voss of Worland, WY; sister Janice Schneckloth of Eldridge, IA; brother Wayne T. Voss of Worland, WY and son-in-law Jimmy Grimes of Boulder, WY.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Food Bank of Wyoming and Meals on Wheels.
A celebration of life will be held in Worland, WY later this summer.
