Bertha "Lynn" Ukele

On August 7, 2026, surrounded by her family, Bertha “Lynn” Ukele of Casper passed away at her home after a long battle with cancer. 

The oldest of four children, Lynn was born on May 10,1944 to Jesse Fletcher Taylor III and Ora Bee Stephens. She was born at her Aunt Merle’s home in Rifle, Colorado, when the lilac bushes outside the window were in full bloom. 

She married Howard William “Bill” Ukele January 18,1961, in Rifle. Her little family quickly grew, having two sons, Don and Gary, in two years. They moved to Gunnison, Colorado where Lynn raised her two babies while working part time at Endners Hardware Store, as her husband attended Western State College. A few years later, they made their way to Casper, Wyoming. 

Lynn was a full-time wife and mother. She loved to watch her boys play sports; anything and everything. She loved to garden, always planting just a few more flowers than the year before. She also loved her animals, taking in numerous needy cats and dogs over the years. She loved cards and games no matter how many times she won or lost. And she loved to shop. Not for anything in particular…just a bargain! 

She and Bill were very active and participated in numerous sports together; golf, tennis, snow skiing and she was particularly fond of bowling. It wasn’t until many years later that she went to work part-time at Hilltop National Bank for 15 years as a statement stuffer.

 After her husband became ill with ALS, she spent the next few years caring for him at home with the help of her family until he passed away in April of 2006.

 Shortly after, she joined Christ Episcopal Church in Glenrock where she was warmly embraced by the congregation. She actively served as a lector, worship leader, and teller. The lifelong friendships she made there far outweighed the commute. She loved the social gatherings and the volunteer work and took special pride in tending her small plot in the church garden. 

But the thing Lynn loved the very most was her family. The noise, the chaos, the craziness. She loved it all. She was always up for almost anything when it came to family. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her younger sister, Brooke Tate. 

She is survived by her two younger brothers, James Taylor (Marie) of Silt, Colorado and Fletcher Taylor of Rifle, Colorado, her two sons, Don Ukele (Deb) of Casper, Gary Ukele (Gretchen) of Aurora, Colorado, four grandchildren-Kristin Cisneros (Matt) of Casper, Sean Ukele (Cassie) of Jenks, Oklahoma, Chelsea Eades (Bryan) of San Antonio, Texas, Michelle Ukele (Hunter) of Casper, and nine great-grandchildren-Cadence, Landen, Cameryn, Ember, Mason, Liam, Spencer, Hudson, and Marlee.

 A service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, August 15, at Christ Episcopal Church, 415 W. Cedar Street in Glenrock with Father Mike Evers officiating. Please wear Lynn’s favorite color, red. 

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to either Christ Episcopal Church or The Casper Humane Society.
