Billy Joe Wieser

Billy Joe Wieser, 54, of Casper, Wyoming, passed away on September 15, 2026, at central Wyoming hospice with his family by his side. He was born on September 8, 1972, in Riverton, Wyoming.

Billy was the kind of person who seemed born with a wrench in one hand and curiosity in the other. Growing up, he would take everything apart and only sometimes put it back together, which is a fairly bold way to learn how the world works. That early talent turned into a life’s work, and he became a talented diesel mechanic with many certifications to his name. If it had a motor, Billy could run it, fix it, figure it out, or at the very least give it a look that made it behave. Snowmobiles, cars, boats, side by sides—machines were his language, and he spoke it fluently.

He graduated from Riverton Highschool in 1991 and went on to attend and graduate from Cheyenne areo-tech in 1994. He built a career from skill, persistence, and a genuine gift for mechanical work. His accomplishments as a diesel mechanic were a source of pride, not because he needed applause, but because he believed in knowing how to do something well and doing it right.

Billy was funny, sarcastic, and never took life too seriously, which made him good company and occasionally a dangerous influence on any conversation that had become too respectable. At the same time, he was guarded and kept his close circle small. If Billy let you in, you knew it meant something. Beneath the humor and the sharp edges was a man who loved deeply and loyally.

He had one true love in Gayle Wieser. They were married for 35 years and together welcomed two beautiful children, Lexi and Jacob. That love story remained one of the defining parts of his life, and his family was at the center of who he was.

Billy is survived by his daughter, Lexi Wieser, and his son, Jacob Wieser; by his father, Bill Wieser, and step-mother, Becky Wieser; and by Gayle Wieser, his wife and enduring love. He is also survived by his siblings, Corina Wieser, Michael Wieser and Jen Wieser, Ty and Scott Malson, Amanda Piercy, and Lois and Nate Labsack. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sharon and Tom Umscheid. Each of them held a place in Billy’s life and story, and each carries forward memories of his humor, his skill, and the unmistakable way he moved through the world.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Vicky Tescher; his grandparents, Willard and Maxine Wieser, Richard and Alice Thompson, and JoAnn and Mike Krauss.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at United Way, 350 Bighorn Road, Casper, WY 82601.

Billy will be remembered for his hands that could fix almost anything, his mind that was always figuring out how things worked, and his humor that could catch people off guard in the best way. He leaves behind a family who loved him, stories that will grow better in the retelling, and the sort of legacy that smells faintly of diesel, hard work, and a life lived in his own unmistakable style.
