Carl D. Cashatt, 66, known as Mark to many of his customers and as Grumpy to his family, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at his home after a brief battle with cancer.
Carl was the owner and operator of C & J Auto Repair for 32 years; knight-in-shining-armor to his partner of 30 years Cindy Ryder; and father to Andre R. Ouellet (Heather) of Texas, Samantha Rodabaugh (Kyle) of Rawlins, and the late John D. Ouellet for most of their lives. He was also proceeded in death by his mother, Donna Becker.
Carl was born December 23, 1959, in Carlsbad, NM, an irony that was not lost on him. He enjoyed his job immensely, working until the last minute he physically could, and then continuing to do what he could from his home. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing practical jokes on anyone he liked, and making up nicknames for those who were really special to him. He also loved spoiling his little dog, Keera, as well as many before her.
The family would like to thank Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions for their care; and all of his friends and customers who called, visited, and stopped by the shop to check on him. The amount of concern shown proves his grouchy exterior did not actually hide his heart of gold.
A celebration of life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 1800 S. Conwell St, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 1 (no joke, and he would certainly approve!) While Carl will be greatly missed, this event will be a celebration of who he was and those attending will be encouraged to share funny stories about him, of which there are many. Come as you are, work clothes expected. He was not a suit and tie guy and won’t want a room of people “looking like they are going to a funeral.”
Lunch will be provided by the church and Sherri’s Place, his favorite restaurant, after the event.
