Charles Owen McGurn

Charles Owen McGurn, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, at Central Wyoming Hospice. Born on February 27, 1938, in Moorcroft, Wyoming, Charles lived a life dedicated to family, community, and the open road.

At the young age of 18, Charles began his career in truck driving, which would span an impressive 54 years. In 1969, he turned his passion into entrepreneurship by founding C and Y Trucking, a venture that would serve him until his retirement in 2010. Charles' love for semi-trucks was matched only by his skills as a mechanic and welder, skills that he honed over the years. His story was enriched by the many journeys he took, including memorable experiences during his military service stationed at Ft. Richardson, Alaska, where he was honorably discharged on May 31, 1963.

Education was important to Charles, who graduated from the 8th grade in Moorcroft, and he continued to learn and grow throughout his life. He was known for his gregarious nature; he never met a stranger and loved to share stories about his adventures on the road and life in Alaska. His personality shone through in his love for elk hunting, fishing, and visiting friends.

Family was always Charles’ top priority. He is survived by his cherished wife, Yolanda (Dyer) McGurn, who was his sweetheart and partner throughout their life together. He took immense pride in his children, daughter Yvonna Brown and son Mark McGurn (Bobbie), who carry forward his legacy. In addition to his immediate family, Charles treasured time spent with his grandchildren – Patrick (Ciara) Brown, Chris McGurn, and Randie Odden (Ryan) – as well as great-grandchildren Vivian Brown and Josiah Dick.

Charles is predeceased by his parents and two sisters, along with one brother. Throughout his life, he the values of service, commitment, and love for family that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service to honor Charles' life will be held on September 10, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in Casper, WY. Friends and family are invited to celebrate a life well-lived, full of stories, laughter, and love. Charles Owen McGurn’s spirit and dedication to those he loved will remain an enduring part of their lives.
