Listen to Obituary

Cynthia "Cyndy" J. Thompson, 71, of Casper, Wyoming passed away Saturday, October 24, 2026. Cyndy was born August 19, 1955 in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, the oldest of two children born to Charles and Margaret Nauman. The family moved from Pennsylvania to Peoria, Illinois, where she began her schooling. She graduated from Canyon High School in New Braunfels, Texas in 1973. She attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas earning her Bachelor's degrees in Speech Pathology and Audiology and Special Education. She started her teaching career in Grand Prairie, Texas. She taught Special Education with the Natrona County School District for 14 years. She met her husband, Kent Thompson, while teaching at Paradise Valley Elementary School. They married December 14, 1991.

Cyndy was a vibrant, loving, and unforgettable presence who filled every room with joy, laughter, and an electric sense of warmth. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will be held forever in the hearts of all who knew her.

A former special education teacher, Cyndy dedicated years of her life to guiding, empowering, and advocating for her students with patience and unwavering heart. Cyndy truly never met a stranger. Whether meeting someone for the first time or reconnecting with an old friend, she had an incredible gift for making a single day spent with her feel like the best day ever.

Feisty, funny, witty, and a perpetual ball of energy, Cyndy embraced life with unmatched enthusiasm. She was an avid gardener who took amazing care of her garden, spending hours outdoors tending to her flowers and plants. Cyndy was also an extraordinary cook who brought people together over delicious meals. A fiercely loyal friend, and a loving aunt who adored her nieces and nephews beyond measure. She loved collecting antiques, especially vintage Halloween and Christmas items; canning, pickling, and baking. If you visited her you left with a jar of something, and if Cyndy visited you, she brought you a box of delicious foods.

Among her favorite passions were cross-stitching beautiful pieces. Cyndy created incredibly intricate professional-level cross stitch each taking hundreds of hours that look like master paintings. Her talent and skill are unsurpassed. She enjoyed cheering on her favorite football teams, and exploring the world alongside the love of her life, Kent. She especially loved their travels to the Texas Hill Country, the Black Hills of South Dakota; and Lake City, Colorado. Above all else, Cyndy adored her husband, and together they built a life rich in love, adventure, and deep partnership.

A friend says she will never forget how kind Cyndy was by reading storybooks to her dying grandchild. She might have been slight in stature, but her presence was huge. Cyndy and Kent enjoyed dining out, coming to know servers, not just as customers, but as true friends. Cyndy saw, acknowledged, and let people know they were appreciated.

She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Nauman; mother, Margaret Nauman; father-in-law, Durell Thompson; and mother-in-law, Helen Thompson.

Cyndy is survived by her husband, Kent (two months shy of their 35th wedding anniversary); sister, Betsy Nauman Cook; nieces, Kayleigh Nauman and Reagan Thompson; nephews, Thaxton Cook, Rhett Cook; Michael (Sarah) Thompson; and niece, Elsa Thuente; sister-in-law, Kim (Rick) Fawcett; brother-in-law, Kelly (Jeanette) Thompson; great nephew and niece, Noah and Ella Thompson, and special friend Michaele Hudson. Cyndy will be missed deeply by her family, friends, and everyone whose life she touched including her two rescue dogs, Pocono and June, who miss her terribly.

At Cyndy's request there are no services planned.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Villalobos Rescue Center in New Orleans, LA, from where Kent and Cyndy adopted Pocono and June or a donation to your favorite animal rescue.
