Darcy D. Hunter

April 7, 1946 — May 6, 2023

Darcy Del Hunter was born on April 7, 1946 and died on May 6, 2023 at the age of 77 following a long and courageous battle with cancer that included many great years with her children and grandchildren.

Darcy was the daughter of Harvey and Jeanette Johns. She was born in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin where she graduated high school. Darcy attended college for several years, and joined VISTA, which is how she met John (Jack) Hunter. They were married in Okauchee, Wisconsin on June 22, 1968. Shortly after their marriage, Darcy was privileged to travel with Jack to what was then Asmara, Ethiopia where Jack was assigned with the Army at Kagnew Station. Their two daughters were born during this overseas adventure. After returning home, they spent brief periods in several cities including Chicago, where Jack studied to be a mechanic, Little Rock where their son was born, and Henderson, Kentucky. The family then traveled to the UAE where Jack worked on oil rigs in the Persian Gulf. They returned again to the U.S. settling first in Gillette, Wyoming, and then finally in Casper, Wyoming in 1978.

Darcy was employed as a substitute teacher at Dean Morgan Junior High for many years, a job she truly loved, before taking a job with the United States Postal Service where she retired in 2016. Darcy was never one to enjoy the spotlight, but was always involved in teaching her children how to cook, sew, garden and in a variety of other creative and artistic endeavors. Darcy always worked hard and through her thrift was able to create a wonderful home for her family. She loved working in her yard, reading, camping, and spending precious time with her grandchildren. Her encouragement, creativity, generosity and wry humor will be greatly missed.

Darcy was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 2000, and by her parents in 2010 and 2016. She is survived by her daughters, Melanie (Richard) Shutts of Casper; Leigh Hunter of Casper; and son, Brian (Melissa) Hunter of Laramie. She also is survived by her grandchildren: Simon, Emma, Jack, Nicholas, Adrianne, Samuel, Madeline, and Cooper. She is further survived by her sister Judy (Kenneth (d.)) Rhodee, Jay (Jeanne) Johns, and Marc Johns all of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; P.J. (Jill) Johns of Silver Lake, Ohio; Dixie (Artie) Wachter of Elroy, Arizona.
