David Arthur Kubichek, 74, of Casper, Wyoming passed away Monday, June 15, 2026.
My husband David was born in Casper to Bill and Nina, alongside his brother, Robert. He attended NCHS, where he enjoyed theater and football and won a state wrestling title. He went on to CSU and Creighton Law and began his 47 years of service to the Department of Justice, working for the Nuclear Regulatory Agency in Washington, D.C. and returning to Omaha to serve in the U.S. Attorney’s Office. It was there that he met me, Mary. We married in 1983 and eventually returned to Casper, our forever home. Together we raised our children: Bob (1987–2023) and Katie, now Kat Martinez, married to Jake. We are blessed with three grandchildren: Regulus, Ember, and Jenny.
David was respected and deeply loved. I knew him as a devoted “dance dad” who even performed on stage in “The Nutcracker,” a constant supporter of my work and students, and a man who always encouraged my legal aid and therapy work with Noel. And always cheered “YAY” to my debate team. He listened to my stories, laughed at my jokes, and was endlessly supportive of Kat and all things she loved. He was a loving brother to Robert; best friend to Rick McFayden and part of the McFayden Lisco Nebraska Hunting Circle; and a second father to Russett. He was deeply involved in his grandchildren’s lives.
He loved folk music and later became an admirer of Lady Gaga and Eva Cassidy. He was a mountain climber, avid runner (running for causes up until his death), fly fisherman, birdwatcher, Hallmark fan, eclectic reader, and devoted pet lover—from labs, to Alien, to even a rat.
Professionally, he was a passionate DOJ colleague, a champion for new citizens at immigration ceremonies, a legal scholar, wordsmith, mentor, and a “beacon of justice.” At his Swearing Out Ceremony, he was humbled by recognition. Judge Downes wrote: “David’s faithfulness to the law and his love of humanity are enduring legacies.”
David survived cancer, battling it four times over 15 years. Then, cancer won.
Services will be held at St. Anthony School Commons on Saturday, July 11th, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm with tributes at 2:30 pm.
