Donald Vernon Cobb

September 10, 1942 — May 2, 2025

Casper Wyoming

Dr. Don (Donald) Vernon Cobb was born on September 10, 1942, in Boulder, Colorado to Vernon Cobb and Elizabeth (Clayton) Cobb. He died May 2, 2025, in Casper, Wyoming.

His early life was spent in Jamestown and Boulder, Colorado until the death of his father in a mining accident, and the family moved to Casper in 1956. Don graduated from Natrona County High School in 1960 and Casper College in 1963. His love of agriculture and animals led him to Colorado State University, graduating as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1967.

Dr. Cobb practiced in Walla Walla, Washington, and then in Casper in 1968. He was a partner in the large animal practice on Fairgrounds Road for many years. In 1980, he chose to venture out as a lone practitioner in establishing Cobb Veterinary Services until semi-retirement in 2018. In his final weeks of life, he was still willing to serve, offering health certificates and Coggins Tests for a friend. During his years of practice, he developed and highly valued many relationships and friendships with clients. He believed in affordable vaccinations for all animals and held a regular clinic at the Humane Society. Don donated many hours to his love of rodeo as the veterinarian on site for the PRCA Rodeos at the Central Wyoming Fair and the College National Finals Rodeo. He believed in youth in agriculture and supported them through 4H, FFA, and teaching Animal Disease classes at Casper College.

Don is survived by many family members. Sister Zoe (Leonard) Madsen of Casper. Children, Anna Cobb, Scott (Dana) Cobb, Jim (Cristy Dicklich-Cobb) Cobb of Douglas, Wyoming, Tom (Jackie) Cobb of Tomball, Texas, and Jason Yocum of Casper. Grandchildren: Derek (Rachel) Vogelsong of Douglas, Drew Loveless of Cheyenne, Beth Loveless (Josh Ferguson) of Laramie, Darcy Cobb (Jeff Bugher) of Casper, Adam (Jamie) Cobb of Eaton, Colorado, Blake (Kristi) Cobb, Claire (Blake) Morey, Max Cobb and Sam Cobb all of Douglas, Wyoming. Kaleb Cobb, Kyle Cobb, Maygen (Kenneth) Strawn Cobb of Tomball, Texas, Jeremy Dziewit of Charleston, South Carolina, Anthony Cobb and Chad Cobb of Casper, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son (Mike) Cobb, spouse (Juanita) Cobb, spouse (Mary) Cobb, brother (Guy) Cobb, (Butch) Moore, (Mike) Moore and grandson (Liam) Cobb.

Don firmly believed in mental health work, especially after the recent loss of his grandson Liam.

We encourage you to honor Don’s life by deepening your relationships with others. Be present in your conversations. Please make two, no agenda, contacts to people you care about or who have been in your life. Call a person and tell them, “I have 5 minutes with no agenda, and you are important … How are you doing?”

Most importantly, please be mindful of your mental health and those around you. Consider researching https://stayanotherday.com/. Use or pass along the 988 lifeline when needed.

In his own words, Don leaves these final thoughts to ponder:

Life has been a journey filled with joy and disappointments but would not be traded or relieved. All that was ever asked was how to be remembered as a person who treated people with respect and tried to do the best in anything and everything.

My life guidelines

  • It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice

  • You have to stand for something or fall for anything

  • Principles matter

  • There is never a wrong time to do the right thing
