Dorothy E. Knott
1934 -to- 2026

I wanted to let everyone know that we lost are Mother yesterday afternoon. She survived two massive heart attacks, and breast cancer. She was a trouper right up to the end. Tonight, her pain is gone, she’s young and healthy again and dancing with a tall Wyoming cowboy in some romantic setting.
Dorothy (known as Dottie by most) was born into a military family. Her father was a Naval Officer and they moved frequently, living on naval bases in San Diego, CA and Kodiak Island, AK. When her father retired from the military they moved to Guernsey, WY. She finished high school there and enrolled in the University of Wyo. It wasn’t long before she caught the eye of that tall Wyoming cowboy, named Dwight ……..and the romance began.
Dwight and Dottie married while still students at U.W. Upon graduation, they moved to Gillette, WY. Dwight was a school teacher and Dottie proceeded to raise three children. As Dwight’s career progressed, he became an oil executive and a rancher. Dottie was always a good sport, keeping up with her busy husband and three active kids. Even though, what she really wanted was a quiet corner, a warm blanket, and her book. Dottie was an avid reader and literally had thousands of books on her Kindle. She was also an accomplished poet, and she truly loved her craft room. Above all else, she was a Foodie. Dottie loved to cook and baked amazing breads. Because of her influence her signature dish: Dottie’s Taco Salad is on the menu of a particular restaurant in Spearfish, SD.
Upon Dwight’s passing in 2014, Dottie moved into the Primrose Retirement Community, in Casper, WY. It was a challenge for her to downsize her home into just a two-bedroom apartment. However, she really loved living there. She knew, and was friends with everyone in the building including the staff. The entire staff enjoyed having her there, and they knew they could always stop by her apartment for a cinnamon roll, a warm cup of coffee and a kind and attentive listener. She also loved her computer and often sent out daily inspirational messages and funnies to her family and friends.
She accepted her death with her head held high, with grace and dignity. She often complained that her body was failing her. Her legs wouldn’t work like they used to; her lungs would give out on her and her heart couldn’t keep up. She was ready to move onto the afterlife, and dance with that tall cowboy previously mentioned. We miss her so much already, this loss is a deep one for all of us.
The good lord has a new angel in heaven tonight. Tonight she’s young again, she has a brand-new heart, a new set of heavenly lungs and two new angel legs. Tonight, dance mother dance you deserve it. After reuniting with Dwight, she will likely find a quite nook somewhere, curl up with a warm blanket and a good book.
R.I.P.
Your loving family.
