Flora Isabelle (Chavez) Day, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026, at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Casper, Wyoming. She was born on April 2, 1948, to John and Isabelle Chavez in Wheatland, Wyoming; and lived a life centered on family, faith, friendship, and the quiet, steady work of caring for those she loved.
Flora graduated from Torrington High School in Torrington, Wyoming, in 1966. On March 17 of that same year, she married John Day in Rapid City, South Dakota. Their marriage spanned more than four decades, and together they built a home and raised five sons. John preceded her in death on May 27, 2009. Flora was deeply proud of raising her family and taking care of her home, a role she embraced with love and devotion throughout her life.
For most of her life, Flora was a homemaker whose days were devoted to caring for her family and her five sons. Before the birth of her fourth child, she worked as a manager at Sears, a position she enjoyed and remembered fondly. She was also proud to stand beside her husband through his years as a veteran’s spouse, sharing more than 40 years of marriage with him.
Flora found joy in the simple and beautiful things of life. She loved gardening and took special pleasure in her flowers. She enjoyed decorating, taking pictures of scenery and family, going to church, and spending time with friends. She treasured conversations on the phone with family and friends, and before being diagnosed with sclerosis arthritis, she liked to exercise and go to the gym with friends. These everyday joys reflected her warm spirit and her deep appreciation for the people and moments that made life meaningful.
She is survived by her sons Sam Day, Mark (Kimberly) Day, and James (Denise) Day; by her grandchildren James Day, Samantha Day, and Noah Day; by her sister Chlorie Lavato; and by her brothers Johnny and Benji Chavez. She will also be remembered with love by all who knew her through her family, her friendships, and the many lives she touched with her kindness and care.
In addition to her husband John, Flora was preceded in death by her parents, sister Margaret, along with two sons, Bobby Day and Chris Day.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 710 E 2nd St, Casper, Wyoming 82601. She will be laid to rest with her husband and sons at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Casper.
