Listen to Obituary

Gary Dean Bissell, born October 7, 1949, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Marlene Rollins and Glenn Bissell, grew up in Hyannis, Nebraska—a small town that he and his brother Edwin, born two years later, managed to keep on its toes. Gary spent his childhood playing football, running around with the kids his age, and occasionally tormenting the Sheriff (all in good fun, of course). He later attended Hastings College for a year, where he continued his lifelong habit of enjoying life to the fullest.

Gary returned to Hyannis and married Georgia Siefers on September 1, 1968. Together they welcomed two daughters, Jana JoAnn and Jodi Lynne. The family moved to Casper, Wyoming, where Gary worked for Boatright Construction, High Plains Construction, and eventually joined the City of Casper Landfill in 1995. He stayed in Casper even after Georgia’s passing in 2004, building a life filled with friends, memories, and laughter. Gary later met Kathy and married her on April 22, 2006, who remained by his side.

Gary should be remembered exactly as he lived: always ready for a good time, always smiling (unless his daughters were testing his patience), and always willing to help anyone who needed it. He loved golf, bowling, fishing, listening to oldies and played softball for many years—collecting friends almost as quickly as he collected stories.

Gary is survived by his wife Kathy; daughters Jana Andrews (Dave) and Jodi Elsea (Mark); stepson Nate Markworth (Farren); grandchildren Colten (Kate) Elsea, Seth Elsea, and Madison Elsea (Traiton Starr), Jerry Kiever and Jacob Kiever; great-grandchildren Charli and Savannah Elsea; and sister-in-law Sandy Siefers.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Georgia Siefers Bissell, his parents Marlene and Glenn Bissell, his brother Edwin Bissell, and step-son Rob Markworth.

Gary leaves behind a lifetime of stories, a family who loved him, and more laughter than one man ought to be responsible for—and that’s exactly how he would have wanted it.
