Henry LeRoy Burback, 92, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, at Central Wyoming Hospice Center in Casper, Wyoming. A sentimental man of strength, resilience, and deep love for his family and the outdoors, LeRoy leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, determination, and a life well lived.

Henry LeRoy was born on August 11, 1933, in Yoder, Wyoming, to George and Eva (Kautz) Burback. He was one of thirteen children. Raised during difficult times, he left school early to help his father and siblings work on the family farm in Nebraska, learning the values of grit, sacrifice, and responsibility at a young age.

LeRoy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in April 1953 during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a Disabled American Veteran in 1956 and remained in the Marine Corps Reserves until 1961. A proud Marine, he continued doing calisthenics well into his 80s and never forgot the discipline, teamwork, and love of country that his military service instilled in him.

In 1956, LeRoy met a lovely Red Cross volunteer named Lorraine “Lori” Jalbert during a surgical stay in California that unexpectedly kept him from serving in Korea. That chance meeting introduced him to the love of his life. On May 25, 1957, LeRoy and Lori were united in marriage at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Casper, Wyoming. Together they made Wyoming their permanent home and were blessed with three children: Greg, Teri, and Stephanie.

Professionally, LeRoy worked at Mountain States Appliance in Casper for more than a dozen years. In 1972, LeRoy and Lori founded Burback’s Refrigeration and Appliance Repair. Their son, Greg Burback, joined the business in 1980, and together they expanded the company from residential appliance repair into a successful commercial company. For more than five decades, Burback’s has proudly served the Casper community and communities throughout Wyoming. Through his work, LeRoy was known for his reliability, craftsmanship, and strong work ethic. He had a generous spirit and often went out of his way to help others.

An avid outdoorsman from a young age, LeRoy held a lifelong appreciation for nature and wildlife. He viewed the natural world with a keen eye and was quick to point out its unique qualities, sparking curiosity in others. Whether hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors with family and friends, or simply observing the beauty around him, he found peace and joy in nature. He cherished Wyoming’s landscapes, from hunting in the mountains to fly-fishing its rivers. He was also a devoted Rockies and Broncos fan, enjoyed a good Western, and took great pride in watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow.

LeRoy resided contentedly at Primrose Retirement Community for two years before spending his final four months in the compassionate care of Central Wyoming Hospice Center. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of both facilities for the dedicated and gracious care they provided to LeRoy and his loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lori; his parents; two infant sisters; brothers Fred, George, and Harry; and sisters Esther, Irene, Elsie, Gladys, Betty, and Rosie.

LeRoy is survived by his children and their spouses: Greg Burback (Cindy), Teri Wheatley (Greg), and Stephanie Gundlach (Shane); seven grandchildren: Michelle Black (Kameron), Annie Martorano (David), Ari Burback (Turner), Joe Wheatley (Claire), Elle Wheatley (Thomas), Sarah Fairlie (Martin), and Katherine Gundlach (Colton); four great-grandchildren: Kora, Chiara, Maddie, and Brooks; his brother, Bob Burback (Jodi); and many extended family members and friends who will dearly miss him.

Henry LeRoy Burback leaves behind more than memories—he leaves a lasting example of resilience, humor, and love. Those who knew him still feel his sentimental heart in their own, still picture him grinning beneath a Marine cap with a fly rod in his hand, still hear him playing “You Are My Sunshine” on his harmonica around a campfire, and still cherish the spirit, humor, and tenderness that defined a life fully lived.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 S. Wilson, Casper, WY 82601, or Tunnel to Towers, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
