In Memoriam: James Francis Doyle, 83

Jim died suddenly of natural causes on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026.

Jim was born on August 17th, 1942, in Billings, Montana, to Ruth and Francis Doyle. He met his future wife, Nancy, in 1964, and they were married on July 1st, 1967, by Paul Hallock, after Jim returned from Vietnam.

Jim served honorably in the US Army from March 1965 through December 1966. As a Military Policeman, he served in Vietnam, where he achieved the rank of Specialist E-4 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Jim retired from the US Postal Service after serving as a Postmaster in Wyoming. He was an avid ham radio operator (KB7YP) as well as a member of the Casper Amateur Radio Club and the Wyoming Cowboy Net. A lifelong hunting and fishing enthusiast, he also enjoyed gold prospecting as a member of the Gold Prospectors Association of America.

Jim spent his winters in Quartzsite, Arizona, four-wheeling, prospecting, flying RC aircraft, and above all, enjoying the companionship of his close friends there. Jim knew the desert like the back of his hand, and he loved American history.

He adored his daughters, Kim and Amy, and his grandson Fisher. Jim and his family loved the time they spent at the family cabin, “Alpine”, especially his afternoon naps in the mountains of Casper.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Alice "Nancy" Doyle. He is survived by his daughters, Kim Doyle of Casper, Wyoming, and Amy Carlson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Amy's husband, Jim Carlson, and their son, Fisher Carlson, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his sister-in-law, Jackie Tighe of Casper, Wyoming; his niece, Veronica "Nikki" Fenner of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his nephew, William Tighe Jr. of Casper, Wyoming; and his cousin, Sharon Jackson of New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Memorials may be given in his memory to the James and Nancy Doyle Scholarship Fund at Casper College. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date
