James “Jim” Leslie Venjohn, 72, of Casper, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at his home on October 17, 2025.
Jim was born on July 10, 1953, in Faulkton, South Dakota, to Wilbert and Dorine Venjohn. He grew up south of Polo, South Dakota, on their family farm alongside his 11 siblings. He attended grade school and high school in Polo.
Jim met the love of his life, Nina, in 1986 in Alcova, Wyoming. The two were married on Jim’s birthday, July 10, 1988, in Reno, Nevada. They soon after welcomed their son, Jordan, on February 16, 1989. Jordan was Jim’s absolute pride and joy—a title only shared years later when his grandson, Bronson Venjohn, came into the world on November 12, 2013.
After graduating high school in 1972, Jim attended a trade school for heating and cooling in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He spent the following few years working for an HVAC company in Jamestown, North Dakota. In 1978, Jim moved to Casper, Wyoming, following his brothers Gary and Pat, where together they started VJ’s Carpet. Years later, Jim founded his own company, Rocky Mountain Equipment Locators, which he operated successfully for over 30 years.
Jim had a natural gift for conversation and could make friends wherever he went. He loved all things outdoors, keeping up with the news and current events, enjoying a cold beer in his garage, cooking meals for his loved ones and gathering with family for Sunday night dinners.
A devoted member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Casper, Jim was deeply involved with the Knights of Columbus and remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life. He passed with a rosary in his pocket, a symbol of his lifelong devotion.
His memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Nina; his son, Jordan (Haley) and his grandson, Bronson. He is also survived by his siblings Marilyn, Cil (Les), Ron (Kathy), Diane, Phyllis, Gary, Ray (Yuri), Daniel, Dave (Kelli), his sister-in-law Debbie and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Dorine, by his siblings Roger and Pat, his sisters-in-law Debra and Vicky, and his nephews Brad and Bill.
A visitation will be held at Newcomer’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, 6-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Casper, Wyoming, with a reception to follow.
Jim will then be laid to rest in his hometown of Polo, South Dakota. A Rosary and visitation will be held Monday, October 27, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Liborius Catholic Church, followed by the burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery, with lunch to follow.
Jim will be remembered for his warmth, humor, unwavering faith, and love for his family.
