Jeanette (Jan) Lehr Cobb was born the daughter of Dr. William Franklin Lehr and Olive Beitler Lehr in Arlington, Ohio on December 23, l926. She spent her growing up years, elementary through High School years in this small town, where she could probably call everyone by name. On completion of high school she attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio for one year and then transferred to Bowling Green State University, in Bowling Green, Ohio where she graduated with a BA in Sociology. Her first experience into the working world was in Cleveland, Ohio as a caseworker for the city in a polish neighborhood, a language she did not speak. She left this job and returned to Arlington after her father suffered a stroke. She remained in Arlington spending the summer working as the waterfront director of the Toledo Girl Scout Camp. In the fall she was employed by the Franklin County American Red Cross In Columbus, Ohio as a caseworker, a job she held for three years. She also worked as a child welfare worker in Ohio, Missouri and Virginia. Following her family: move to Wyoming she was employed as the Supervisor for the Birthparent, Adoptive Program of Catholic Social Services. A job she loved.
In 1951 Jan married Robert (Bob) Cobb and they lived in married student housing in Columbus while Bob attended Ohio State University. Their first two sons were born during this period. After Bob’s graduation his employment took him to a number of states and the family followed adjusting to new areas and different parts of the country. During this period two more children were born, another boy and a girl, making a family of six.
Following retirement Jan became involved in a number of volunteer services including Meals on Wheels, Hospital Auxiliary, Methodist Thrift Shop and some reading programs with the schools. She and Bob were also able to travel and enjoyed time in Hawaii, the Caribbean and a couple of cruises. Her family and grown with the addition of in-laws, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and her greatest joy was being able to spend time with them. She enjoyed nature, painting, gardening, swimming and other kinds of exercise the area offered.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, of 61 years. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Bill & Paulette, Jeff and Ellen, Jay and Kim and Jody and Rick, twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A Memorial Service for Jan will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at United Methodist Church in Casper, Wyoming.
