Dr. John Shannon Sappington passed away at his home in Casper, WY on the 3rd of July. Born in Baytown, TX in 1962, John graduated from Ross S. Sterling High School in 1980. He completed his undergraduate studies at Texas A & M University, and earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.
John was larger than life and never failed to make those around him laugh. He was forever proud to be an “Aggie.” John excelled in many sports in high school and later cherished every sporting event he could attend for his children. He was their biggest fan and always had words of encouragement. John and his daughter enjoyed watching Elevation Church online and discussing the latest sermon. He always had a love of animals and spent hours caring for and photographing the wild animals on his property in Casper.
Preceded in death by his mother, Patsy Sappington, John is survived by a daughter, Dr. Alexandra Sappington and husband Dr. David Cooper of New Orleans, LA, and a son Max Sappington of Sumter, SC. Also surviving are John’s father, Patrick Sappington and wife Yolanda of Baytown, sister Stephanie Elkins of Amarillo, TX, and brother Mark Sappington and wife Emily of Baytown.
A memorial service will be held on the 26th of July at 11:00 a.m. in the Mariner Room of the Hyatt Regency Convention Center, 100 Convention Center Way, Baytown, TX.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Werner Wildlife Museum, c/o Casper College Foundation, 125 College Drive, Casper, WY 82601, or Kairos of Texas.
