Judith Brown Aurelius (Judy), 90, of Casper, Wyoming died on Thursday February 5, 2026.
Daughter of William Kindell and Kathryn Lynch Brown, Judy was a New Years Day baby, born in Denver, Colorado on January 1, 1936. She graduated from East Denver High School in 1954 and married Tom Aurelius in Denver, Colorado on November 25 of that year. Following Tom’s graduation from the University of Colorado in 1958, the couple moved to Ville Platte, Louisiana for about a year before returning to the West and settling in Casper.
Judy spent the early years of their marriage managing the household and raising four kids. However, she had a servant’s heart and soon became actively engaged in local volunteer organizations. She was a co-founder, board member, and president of the Blue Envelope Health Fund. During her 50-year participation, this grass roots organization grew from initially focusing on preventing strep throat epidemics in public schools to playing key roles in establishing the Central Wyoming Counseling Center, Central Wyoming Hospice Program, and Life Flight.
During the 1970's Judy and her husband owned and operated the United Van Lines agency in Casper. While Tom managed the field operations, Judy managed the office side of the business.
Judy’s German shepherd George kept her company and was her personal bodyguard, coming out from his station under the desk whenever he thought someone needed to know he was around. Judy and Tom loved animals and collected a small menagerie that kept them busy and entertained.
Judy’s care for her community continued throughout her life, and she was instrumental in making Masterson Place a reality. Judy also took meals to Masterson Place and stocked the freezer 2 to 3 times a month. In her later years, she volunteered as one of the “Angels” at Rocky Mountain Oncology. Judy established and curated the wig and bra room that served patients free of charge and enjoyed helping provide milk shakes for patients undergoing chemotherapy. Judy also served on the Wyoming Medical Center Foundation Board for 10 years and participated in PEO for over 23 years.
JuJudy loved the outdoors. She & Tom moved to Meadow Acres in 1973, and she lived there for the next 50 years. They enjoyed rural living, hosting family and friends and watching the Wyoming weather roll through. She and her family spent many winter weekends snowmobiling on Casper Mountain and in the summer she and Tom spent many days on Pathfinder Lake in their boat fishing, where she volunteered with the boat club.
A private service will be held by the family at a later date.
She is survived by her her eldest sons Tom Aurelius and his wife Carla of Casper, and Marc Aurelius and his wife Jenny, of Austin, Texas, and her sister-in-law Ann Jennings of Louisville, KY. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Jeremy Smith, Stephanie Bean, Abbie Aurelius and Olivia Aurelius, and nine great grandchildren.
Judy is preceded by her husband of 58 years, Tom, her daughters Penny Aurelius of Casper, Kate Aurelius of Phoenix, AZ and her granddaughter, Heather Smith of Casper.
The family wants to thank Judy’s caregivers Jocelyn Evans and Virginia Nuenzler, and the staff at Meadow Wind Assisted Living. We will forever be grateful for their friendship, love, and generous care for our mother during the last years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Judith B Aurelius Scholarship at Casper College. These resources are used to support single mothers pursuing post-secondary education in health care.
