Lonnie Rae Allred

Lonnie Rae Allred of Riverton, WY passed August 15, 2026 in Casper.

Lonnie was born December 6, 1942 in Worland, WY to Golden Myron and Clara Stanley Allred, the youngest of four children. He grew up in Ten Sleep on the family ranch on the Lower Nowood. He spent much his youth outside, hunting and ranching and fishing with his brothers and cousins, and helping his dad trap. He played basketball and football for the Pioneers, before graduating from Ten Sleep High in 1961.

He served in the Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968, serving 2 years in Vietnam as an aircraft mechanic.

After his service, he attended Casper College where he met Marjorie Lantz, whom he wed in 1972. The couple moved to Laramie where Lonnie graduated from the University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Range Management. The couple had one son, Tim, and later divorced.

He spent his career with the USDA, Farmers Home Administration, where he took positions in the Basin, Saratoga, and Evanston office, before settling in Riverton until his retirement in 2004.

Lonnie enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, especially gardening and canning what he grew, before getting involved in Master Gardeners and going to weekly farmers markets in Riverton.

Above all, family was most important to him. Biannual family reunions were always looked forward to, and lunch meetings with his brother and sister in Thermopolis or Worland before they passed were frequent. Dad to one, grandpa to six, great grandpa (and buddy) to one, with a second on the way at the time of his passing.

Lonnie is survived by his son Tim, grandkids Hayden, Sailor, Ashlynn, Zac, Sapphyra and Emily, and great grandson Easton, all of Riverton. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Stan and Willard, and sister Myrona.

Lonnie asked for no funeral, so the family will host a memorial in the future.
