Maria L. Britt, 83, of Casper, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Maria was born on February 12, 1942, in Manhattan, New York, to Vera and Theofilo Atienza. She later moved to California, where she graduated from Edison High School in Stockton. During her high school years, Maria was active and spirited, participating on the tennis team, swim team, and cheerleading squad. After graduation, she worked at Foster’s Freeze and Lerner’s, beginning a lifelong pattern of hard work and dedication.
In 1960, Maria married Donald Goldsby, and together they welcomed two daughters, Cindi and Tyanna. In 1970, she married Bobby Britt, blending their families to include Bob’s daughters, Brenda and Andrea. Their family continued to grow with the addition of Kimberly and Michael. They made their home in Stockton and later Santa Clara, California.
After a brief stop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the family settled in Casper, Wyoming, in 1981. Maria began a meaningful career with Natrona County School District #1 as an assistant at Manor Heights Elementary School, where she cared for hundreds of children on the playground, no matter how brisk the Wyoming weather. She later worked at Garfield and Woods Elementary Schools, retiring after 18 years of dedicated service.
Maria and her late husband, Bob, were well known throughout the community for their volunteer work in local schools and for their many creative projects. Bob’s woodworking talents paired beautifully with Maria’s distinctive tole painting style, and their handmade gifts can still be found displayed in Casper homes and classrooms today.
One of Bob and Maria’s favorite adventures was their monthly trips to Deadwood, South Dakota, where they stayed at their favorite hotel and casino, Cadillac Jack’s. There, they formed lasting friendships that became an extended family. Maria was often found at her favorite slot machine, enjoying her “special beverages,” well known to the Cadillac Jack’s staff who continued to keep in touch with her through the years.
Above all, Maria’s greatest strength was her boundless love for family and friends. She was a constant source of encouragement and support. She was known to attend her children and grandchildren’s school and sporting events, serve as a Girl Scout troop leader, enjoy lunch with friends, and host family gatherings. Famous for her homemade enchiladas, lasagna, meatballs, and cannoli, she also shared her love of cooking around tables open to all. Everyone who knew Maria felt her warmth, humor, and unwavering support.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her daughter, Brenda; her sister, Bunny; her parents; and other extended family members she dearly loved.
She is survived by her children: Cindi Wichman (David), Andrea Britt, Tyanna Blase (Chris), Kim Hornbeck (David), and Michael Britt (Chris); her grandchildren: Justin, Brittni, Kimber, and Zach Ogren; Lucas and Nico Lillo; Alec, Carter (Kristin), and Cameron (Kia) Britt; Dalton (Savannah), Hayden, and Brooklyn (Austin) Blase; and Maddie and Max Hornbeck. She is also survived by her siblings, Diane Leal (Stephen) and Larry Macias (Brenda), along with many cherished nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
Maria will be remembered for her deep devotion to family, her sense of humor, and her generous heart—sharing warmth and love with all who were fortunate enough to know her.
