DOB 10-24-1925. Born to Myrna (Simpson) and Orville Peck in Hamlin, KS. She passed into the arms of her Savior on July 17, 2025 Age 99. (99 days short of her 100th birthday).
Marie was the second of 4 children. She grew up near her maternal and paternal grandparents in Brown county Kansas. She attended school in Hamlin and Hiawatha until the 8th grade. She wanted to continue her education, but because of family hardships, she and her older brother Vernon, had to get jobs to help to support the family and themselves. Marie worked in Kansas City, KS for a short time, this is where she met her first husband and gave birth to her first child, Linda. This young marriage ended in divorce shortly after Linda was born.
Marie and Linda then moved to the Army base at Fort Leavenworth, KS, where she was employed as a waitress in the USO cafeteria. As World War II was coming to a close, she met a gentleman soldier by the name of Joseph W. Redig, they fell for each other at first sight, and married 3 days later. After his Honorable discharge from the war, Joe and Marie moved their tiny family to a sheep ranch near Reva, SD. Their first summer was spent in a sheep herder wagon. Marie had to haul water for drinking, washing, and cooking. She said it was a lonely time with no radio or close neighbor to pass the time. They then moved to more permanent housing on a working ranch in South Dakota where Marie cooked for several ranch hands as well as her family.
As the family expanded, and work became more readily available, Joe and Marie moved to Wyoming to follow the oil boom and the rigs. They lived in several towns across Wyoming, including Lance Creek, Thermopolis, and finally settling the family in Glenrock. There they would raise their 8 children. Marie worked as a house wife; caring for the family and looking after the books of Redig Oilfield Service, a company Joe and Marie founded.
Marie loved roller skating, planting flowers and trees, making birdhouses, wooden butterflies, rock walls and sidewalks, and most of all, being with her family. Her smile, and her laugh will always be remembered.
Marie is survived by her children, Marge Hatfield of Wright, Jerry Redig of Glenrock, Jo Ann (Bill) Keith, of Casper, Steve (Chris) Redig of Casper, Virginia Redig of Eugene, Or, Bruce (Darla) Redig of Gillette, and Brenda (James) Short of Casper.
