Listen to Obituary

Mary Louise Geldien's 98-year journey began in Milwaukee, WI on July 31, 1927, when she was born to parents Erving and Perle Levenhagen. She lived in a house adjacent to Greenfield Park and Golf Course with her parents and seven siblings. She spent much of her time outdoors with siblings and built-in best friends Gene, Bettie, Dick, Jim, Ted, Jerry and Pat. Mary developed a passion for golf that would see her playing until she hung up her clubs at age 95. Growing up in this athletic family Mary was highly competitive. This was apparent in all the activities she enjoyed and excelled at.

She graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1945 and went to work for Northwest Airlines. She married Harry Geldien on June 17, 1950 in Milwaukee. Dan was born there a year later after which Mary's journey took her to Laramie, WY where Harry had a scholarship to play football. Nancy was born there and following Harry's graduation their little family moved to Casper, WY where later Gerry and Larry were born. They bought a house where Mary and Harry raised their children. She was a loving mother who lived for her family, supporting and encouraging them to be their best in whatever they did. Mary lived by the motto "Stay Strong" and to never give up. She honored this to her very last breath. Her love was deep and unconditional. Those around her felt her warmth, love and comfort every single day. In 1982 her journey next took her to a cabin she and Harry built on the golf course in Star Valley Ranch, WY where they enjoyed spending their summers. Harry passed away in 2007 and Mary continued to live independently until she passed away on July 4th, 2026 surrounded by her family.

Mary was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was a 45-year volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She generously donated to many charities, especially those that had to do with children.

Mary is survived by her children, Daniel (Rhedda), Nancy, Gerry (Patricia) of Casper and Larry (Dawn) of Laramie, 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Her journey's end will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2026 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, Wyoming Rescue Mission, Make a Wish Foundation and Central Wyoming Hospice.
