Nanci Helen Andrew, age 92, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a life rich with love, adventure, and friendship. She was born on August 12, 1933, in East Chicago, Indiana, to Helen and Emerson Applegate.
As a teenager, Nanci’s mother sent her west to work at a dude ranch—a formative experience that sparked her love for the west and the outdoors and introduced her to Sanford “Sam” Andrew of Baggs, Wyoming. The two later married and began their life together while attending the University of Wyoming, where Nanci earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in history.
Nanci and Sam were blessed with three children—Mike, Sandy, and Allison. While raising their family in Casper, Nanci became an integral part of the community, contributing her time and energy to numerous organizations and causes. She cultivated deep and lasting friendships through her warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
Sam and Nanci ultimately lived in London England, Calgary Canada and Littleton Colorado, making new friends and wonderful memories along the way. They returned to Casper in 1993 and integrated back into the community.
A lifelong love of learning and the arts, Nanci filled her days with classical and folk music, symphonies, and books. She traveled extensively, always eager to experience new cultures and landscapes. A devoted outdoorswoman, she embraced hiking, swimming, cross-country skiing, and fitness long before it was a lifestyle trend. Nanci was a sports fan – (football being her favorite) and spent many hours cheering on family members and her beloved Wyoming Cowboys and the Denver Broncos.
At the heart of it all, Nanci found joy in creating a loving home. She was an exceptional cook, and her family often said her kitchen was their favorite restaurant in town. Her house was a gathering place where laughter, warmth, and the aroma of her meals made everyone feel welcome. In conversations she was exceptional and patient “listener”.
Nanci is survived by her children: Mike (Debi) of Morgantown, WV; Sandy (Julie) of Casper, WY; and Allison of Casper, WY; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Bret (Haley) and Sammie Andrew. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sam Andrew, both her parents, her two sisters and her brother.
Her kindness, strength, and zest for life touched many, and she will be deeply missed.
