Listen to Obituary

Nickolas “Nick” A. Tomas, 68, of Bar Nunn, Wyoming passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Central Wyoming Hospice. He did fight the good fight of a 5 week recovery battle after suffering an ischemic stroke on April 16. He was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Rogelio and Jessie Tomas on Sunday, December 1, 1957.

Nick attended Saint Anthony’s Catholic School until the 8th grade, 9th grade at Dean Morgan Junior High School, and a Natrona County High School Graduate: Class of 1976. In his final years of high school he was employed in the kitchen at Wyoming Medical Center and in late June of 1975 he became partially employed with the United States Postal Service, all the while earning credits for working both jobs in high school. Not long after graduation he studied for the United States Postal Service exam, passed the exam and was officially employed in January 1977.

After nearly a decade of working hard & rendezvousing in life, he moved in with Gaylene and his bonus daughter Michelle. Nick & Gaylene committed to their love and exchanged their vows of marriage on December 2, 1989 in Casper, Wyoming. They welcomed their daughter Jessica in 1990. In January 2001 Nick & Gaylene became the owners of Merback Award Company. Wednesday, April 30th, 2025 Nick finally retired after 49+ Years of Dedicated Service to the United States Postal Service and a member of the American Postal Workers Union. After all of those years as a dedicated, hard working man, he didn't even get to enjoy an entire year of retirement, he did spend that time surrounded by his family that he loved and adored.

Nick’s many passions in his life include: family, music, grandkids, movies, dogs, football, yardwork, bird watching, telling jokes/being a jokester, and collecting many different collections. He fully and completely enjoyed being the life and humor of any party. He always had a camera with him ready to take pictures of anything and anyone, doing anything, so much so his daughters say he was the paparazzi of the family and his friends. If anyone else was taking pictures he was notorious for photo bombing their pictures. The slideshow is only a handful of pictures of Nick.

He will be missed beyond measure, remembered for his kindness and laughs, and loved for all eternity!

He is survived by his loving wife of 36+ years Gaylene Tomas, daughters Michelle Dewald (Joshua Hotchkiss) and Jessica Tomas, grandchildren (bonus & bio) Nickie, Keith, Catie, Levi, Grace, Elysian, Daniel & several bonus great-grandchildren, mother Jessie Gonzales, sister Diane Enriquez (Agustin), nieces Susan, Andrea, & Agnes Enriquez, nephew Marcos Enriquez, son in law John Buckner.

Preceded in death by his father Rogelio Tomas, uncles Armado Tomas and Manuel Tomas, mother in law Clara “Cookie” Dressler, bonus father Frank Gonzales, bonus granddaughter Kreigh Catherine, beloved dogs Pepper, Tigger, and Scrappy plus many other family members and friends.
