Heaven gained an angel on Sunday, April 12th, 2026, when Regina Sharon Lathem gently passed from this life into the arms of our lord and savior. Having received outstanding care and attention from Central Wyoming Hospice for many weeks, Gina stepped into the kingdom of heaven following many visits from friends and family. Even her sweet poodle, Button, visited her during her last days when Gina's friends celebrated her 76th birthday at the hospice home... a delightful party with purple birthday cake and ice-cold coke!
Gina began this life on March 23rd, 1950, born in Abilene, Texas, the middle child of three children. Gina's younger sister, Teresa, remembers that she and Gina went to the movies every Saturday when they were young. A movie cost 75 cents for those over 12 years of age and 25 cents for children under 12 years old. Gina would treat them both to the movie... so for one dollar of Gina's money, they both went to the movies. After Teresa turned 12 Gina paid one time and then her little sister was on her own! Apparently, for a quarter Little Sister was a worthy companion, but when she cost 75 cents she no longer was!
Gina attended Richardson High School, graduating in 1969. Following high school, she attended Stephen F. Austin State University from 1969 to 1974, earning both her bachelor degree and her masters degree in psychology. She studied hard and did well. She began her career working for the Texas department of mental health before moving to Wyoming where she worked for Central Wyoming Counseling Center for 38 years. She was grateful for her career as a licensed professional counselor and made a positive influence on many people in Casper and the surrounding area.
Gina had an endless thirst for knowledge and absolutely loved to read. She had 17 kindles full of books! She always had at least one book going and often read while watching TV - no one knows how she multi-tasked so well between the television and her books!
Gina was a little feisty, a little mischievous, and anyone who played games with her knew her competitive spirit! Her favorite games were: Uno, dominos, cribbage, and rummycube, and she was good at them! Her long time friend, Linda, remembers that she taught her to play cribbage, and Gina beat the socks off her, until one day Gina lost... oh, the ensuing chaos!
Gina had lots of talents, from playing classical piano as a child, to creating amazing ceramics and other crafts in her adult life. But, overall, her dogs were each the center of her life. She had people tell her that if reincarnation is real they want to come back as her dog.
Gina's deepest sense of community was amongst her church friends. Endlessly devoted and caring, this community provided Gina with entertainment and support. Too numerous to name, each of these individuals added much to Gina's life. She also had a tremendous community in her neighbors at Laurel Gardens Apartments. Thank you, to all of you, for your kindness and love to our dear Gina.
Gina is preceded in death by her father, Ferman Matterson Lathem, born in Greenville, MS; and her mother, Regina Meadows Lathem, born in Mobile, Alabama.
Gina is survived by her brother, Harold Blaine (Sharon) Williams, 82, of Heber Springs, Arkansas; Niece Kimberly Williams, 62, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, niece Amber Williams, 56, of Heber Springs, Arkansas; Sister Teresa Lathem, 72, of Kyle, Texas; Nephew Patrick Clark Lathem, 43, of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by Button, her little poodle, who has already been adopted into another loving home.
An angel in this life who now has her wings, Regina Sharon Lathem will be honored with a wake held on May 17th, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Community of Christ Church, 2303 E 15th street in Casper, Wyoming. Come join us and share some of your best "Gina" stories.
