Richard "Rich" Duane Unterseher

Richard Duane Unterseher, affectionately known as Rich, passed away on August 5, 2025, in Casper, Wyoming, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on November 18, 1942, in Sidney, Montana to Emil and Florence Unterseher, Rich lived a life marked by quiet strength and dedication.

Rich attended school in Laurel, Montana, before pursuing his military career. Rich's commitment to excellence was matched by his service to the nation, having enlisted in the United States Air Force in August 1960, where he served honorably until his discharge in August 1964. His patriotism and devotion to serving his country were deeply woven into the fabric of his character.

Rich had a rich career that began in his teenage years when he worked as a gravedigger alongside his father in Laurel, Montana. His work life evolved in the early 1970s when he joined the United Building Center in Laurel. A significant shift occurred when he relocated to Casper, Wyoming, where he embarked on a successful journey in the oil industry. He worked with National Oil Well and later ventured into North Dakota for the Oil Rigs, with a period in Utah. Ultimately, Rich retired from the oilfield and returned to Casper, where he dedicated his time working for his son, Duane, at Huber Plumbing before retiring for the second time.

Throughout his life, he was known for his gentle nature, characterized by his preference for the wellness of others over himself. Described as a kind, affectionate, and personable man, Rich’s quiet demeanor belied a heart full of compassion and love for those around him.

Rich had a variety of interests that brought joy to his life. He loved riding motorcycles, especially Harleys, and enjoyed fishing and spending quality time with his kids and grandkids. His pride in his family was evident, as he often shared stories about his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, relishing in every moment spent together.

Rich is survived by his wife of 32 months, Carolyn Everard; daughter Diana (Terry) Unterseher; sons Duane (Terri) Unterseher and Randy (Severine) Unterseher; grandchildren Jeremiah (Aubree), Zack (Stevi), Konner, Kaden, Kiera, and Rose; great-grandchildren Addison, Riley, Presley, Declan, Kaidence, and Braxton; as well as siblings Emilie (Bill) Williams, Robert (Sharon) Unterseher, Raymond (Diann) Unterseher, and Vickie (Tino) Riojas.

He joins in eternal rest with his parents, his wife of 61 years, Pearl Unterseher, two sisters, Valerie Unterseher and Melodie Unterseher, and grandchildren Richard Garrett and Meredith Lee.

A memorial service to honor Richard Duane Unterseher will be held on August 8, 2025, at Wellsprings Vineyard Church in Casper, Wyoming, starting at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates any donations to be made in his honor to Wellsprings Church. 

Rich's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will live on through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
