Russ was born on April 27, 1957, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to Fran and Bernie Mason. He grew up in Casper, where he graduated from Kelly Walsh High School before continuing his education at Casper College and the University of Wyoming.
Russ deeply loved his two children, JT Mason and Ahna Mason, both of Denver, Colorado. He took great pride in their accomplishments and found immense joy in watching them grow into kind and successful young adults.
Throughout his youth, Russ was active in numerous athletic pursuits, excelling in many. He shared a close bond with his cousin, Todd Twedt. The two spent many years traveling and working together, creating countless stories. In retirement, he spent time with family and friends—golfing, kayaking, and bicycling. He was a pilot and had a lifelong appreciation for adventure and open spaces. He also enjoyed watching Jeopardy! and was known for his quick wit, humor, and a mischievous streak that often kept those around him on their toes.
In the 1990s, Russ co-founded Brimstone Engineering in Denver, Colorado, with his business partner. The company served clients around the world, giving Russ the opportunity to travel extensively. He cherished those experiences and was always ready to share stories from his journeys.
Russ will be remembered for his intelligence, humor, adventurous spirit, and the lasting impression he made on those who knew him. He will be deeply missed. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Tom Kerr. His remarkable kindness and actions will be remembered with deep and lasting gratitude.
Russ is survived by his children JT (Lina) Mason and Ahna Mason; his siblings Rick (Betty) Mason, Dawn Findley Groves, Janet (Pat) McAteer, Roger Mason, and Lori (Jeff) Buckallew; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fran and Bernie Mason, as well as his paternal and maternal grandparents.
