Shawn Layhue

Shawn Layhue, 65, born on November 7, 1960 in Aurora, Colorado, passed away on August 27, 2026 in Casper, Wyoming after a long illness.

Shawn grew up in a military family. He and his family lived in several states such as Colorado, Connecticut, New York, Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, and South Carolina. His first adventure came at a very early age while living in New York. Shawn and his family packed up some things for the day and had a wonderful time at the beach in Coney Island, New York. While living in Iowa, Shawn and his brother Mark were outstanding players in Little League Baseball. Mark was the pitcher and Shawn’s position was the catcher. Needless to say, their team won the local championship title that year. After Shawn's father retired from the military, the family settled in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where Shawn graduated from high school.

Shawn found joy in many things throughout his life. He loved the ocean and the energy of rock n roll music. He enjoyed motorcycles and Corvettes, dancing, skiing, and spending time playing poker and pool. He was also a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos. During the time he lived in South Carolina, he worked for a pool hall, where he learned to be an incredible pool player. It was also in South Carolina that he learned to ride a motorcycle, something that later became a pastime he truly loved. Shawn was also a very good cook.

Shawn will be remembered as a quiet man whose warmth shown most brightly among those who knew him well. He had a very kind heart, and was generous by nature.

Above all else, Shawn loved all of his family dearly. Each of us shared in the love, humor, and quiet strength that Shawn carried throughout his life, and each of us have beautiful memories of our time with Shawn.
