It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sherrie May Tweedy, who left us on June 1, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on May 13, 1945, in Casper, Wyoming, Sherrie lived a life characterized by independence, dedication, and a touch of humor.
Sherrie graduate from Natrona High School in 1964. She worked for a brief period of time in Casper, Wyoming before making the decision to join the Army. On June 30, 1966 Sherrie enlisted and was stationed at Fort McClellan, AL and then at Fort Leanord Wood, MO. She sustained a knee injury and in September 1969 was honorably discharged. After getting out of the Army she attended Casper College, graduating with an Associate of Arts in 1976 and an Associate of Science in 1977. She went on to the University of Wyoming graduating with a Bachelors of Science in 1981.
Sherrie became interested in the Medical Technology field while she was in the Army and overcame many roadblocks to pursue the profession. She completed the year long clinical portion of her training in Fayetteville, AK in 1983. Her determination and commitment led to a successful career with the Veterans Administration Hospitals, first in Miles City, MT followed by another 30 years at the VA Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Sherrie enjoyed living in Florida, and when not working, was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Other interests included anthropology, stained glass work and painting.
Sherrie is survived by her oldest brother Charles L. Tweedy (Joanne) of Gillette, Wyoming, younger brother Paul D. Tweedy of Casper, Wyoming, two nieces, Gina Monk (Randy) of Gillette, Wyoming, and Kristina Tweedy of Cheyenne, Wyoming.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett Laverne Tweedy and May Tweedy.
As we remember Sherrie, we honor a life lived fully and authentically. A legacy of independence, hard work, and determination.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday June 5th, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery.
