Shirley M. Myron

September 29, 1931 — April 21, 2026

Listen to Obituary

Shirley Mary Myron (known to her family as Shirley Mae) was born at home near Tintah, MN on September 29, 1931, the eleventh of twelve children of Anna (Koltes) and John Beckman. She passed peacefully in her own bed at Park Place on 4/21/2026 after a devastating dance with dementia.

Shirley met and married Thomas I. Myron of Elbow Lake, MN in 1950 where they started their family and Shirley worked at the local hospital. They moved the family to Casper, WY in 1968, where she began a life-long career in nursing, earning her LPN, then RN, from Casper College.

As a nurse, she is well-remembered by patients and medical staff alike, for her more than 20 years at Wyoming Medical Center (starting when it was Memorial Hospital of Natrona County) and her many years at NOWCAP Services.

Probably her greatest loves after family (holiday gatherings were always at her house) were dancing and travel. She was perfectly suited to Casper's great era of dance halls, and was seen regularly at the tavern versions as well as any place hosting a dance, like the senior center. She was a member of the Big Horn Mountain Polka Club and taught many people to dance with the foot-stickers on her basement floor.

Trips to Paris, Korea and Australia were no more adventurous to her than trips to the Little House On The Prairie home or Old Carbon, Wyoming. She visited son, Mike, in Canada annually for many years and added deep-sea fishing to her adventure resume of things like sky-diving and camel journeys. She hardly counted as trips her annual treks to Minnesota and North Dakota to some of her many siblings and their families. She was very proud to have brothers serve in WWII and with the loss of her brother, Sylvester, hers was a gold-star family. In a tragic turn of events, her brother, Cal, came home from the war only to be killed a week later in an auto accident.

Shirley was talented at anything to which she set her hand and was an award-winning doll maker, an admirable oil and acrylic painter, a quilter, a gardener and anything else she decided to try.

Shirley is survived by her five children, Daniel (Melanie) Myron of Casper, WY; Karen (Jeff) Hall of Troy, TX; Michael Myron of Quesnel, BC, Canada; Thomas (Norma) Myron Jr. of Tombstone, AZ; and Jonathan (Shannon) Myron of Thermopolis, WY; eleven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, greats and great-greats. Shirley loved life!
