Wanda Lee Ditton, 60 years old, left us too early on July 4, 2025, in Casper, Wyoming, She succumbed to her six-year battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer. She left knowing how loved she was by her children, her grandchildren, friends and colleagues.
Wanda was born on October 18, 1964, to Tom and Shirley Brown. She graduated from Wind River High School in 1982.
Wanda’s hard-headed dedication showed early in her life as she raised three boys as a single mother, sometimes working three jobs to make their life comfortable. Yet, even amidst the challenges life brought her way, she never wavered in her love for them. She was immensely proud of all three of her children. They grew to be successful and honest family men who each serve their communities in their own way. One as an oil and gas industry manager, another a 20-year Navy veteran, and finally, an environmental engineer. She defied the odds and showed everyone that hard work, consistent dedication and some tough love would always prove positive outcomes.
She served as an accountant for a considerable part of her life before her passion for caring for others led her to pursue a career as a Registered Nurse. She achieved a remarkable milestone by returning to college at the age of 50 to obtain her nursing license and a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. While going to school, she began to work as an EMT in Fremont County, slowly becoming a beacon of light and pillar of support for her team. She assisted in the saving of countless lives showing her dedication and selflessness to her community. Her tenacity and dedication to improving the lives of others was evident in everything she did, from her multiple jobs to her unyielding commitment to her family.
Wanda cherished her family immensely. She is survived by her three sons and two daughters-in-laws: Wade and wife Brittnee; Matthew and wife Heather; and Christian, along with her seven grandchildren; Berlynn; Alyssa "AJ”; Brooke; Skylar; Wade III; Estella and Beau.
Her relationship with her grandchildren was particularly special with each having a specific piece of their grandma’s heart. She loved her babies and was a mother to them all. She was always a safe place for them to seek comfort, cuddles, advice, love and always a sneaky little bit of candy! Joy filled holidays to include 4th of July, Christmas, and octopus filled vacations will forever be changed with her loss.
She also held dear her siblings—Debbie Armstrong, Steve Brown, Rick Filman, Brian Brown, Alex Brown, and Kim Brown—who were constants in her vibrant journey of life.
Wanda’s name means “wander,” fitting for a woman always on the go. Pictures fill her family’s memories full of camping adventures, fishing trips, rockhounding, kayaking, and soaking up sunrays. Her passion for the outdoors reflects in every fun-filled adventure she took, from the pack up and go road trips with her boys, fishing with the grandkids, to gardening her tomatoes and peppers for salsa canning; there was nothing she loved more than to be in nature. Her last request was to be spread between the mountains and the sea, so she may continue to enjoy her one true love forever.
In the end, she longed for the embrace of those who preceded her in death- her beloved mother, Shirley Filman, father, Tom Brown, sister-in-law, Shawna, nephew, Austin Filman, and son, Paul Dailey. They await her reunion amidst the fireworks, where their warm welcome waits for her. A piece of her heart will be carried on by us all, for the family she built will be strong and stand tall.
Irony is not lost on us as she departed our lives on the 4th of July, a day of celebration, freedom, and the honored family holiday. For today, she is free. Free of pain, free of cancer, free of the weight that she no longer must bear. Love, Miss, Like Mom - every day until we meet again.
